Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

My box and board is numbered just as pictured by @lowmid1, but I've had it for some time. The unit was sold to me by another TBer that had an earlier model fail - he sold me the unit that Ampeg sent back to him.
My chip was not inked with any markings, but the soldering did look 'factory'.

As a matter of prophylaxis, i adhered a very lightweight aluminum heat-sink on the chip. The heatsink came with a strip of 3-M conductive adhesive attached.

If I did the upload photo routine correctly, an image of the heatsink should be in this post.

PM me if you'd like a heatsink as I still have the balance of a 50-unit order laying about. Its pretty easy to apply - 10 minutes, including just looking around the guts in wonder.

I'm not any experienced player, but I really like the sound of the amp, with gain turned up as @JimmyM suggested. I like it better than any other popular SS amp I've heard so far.
 
Which pedal(s) do you use to achieve this Jimmy.
Varies...sometimes a VT, sometimes a clone of the Greedtone OD that Johnk built and modded to work better with bass, sometimes an MXR Bass Distortion set very low, sometimes the SCR-DI's Scrambler (and soon to be the separate Scrambler pedal!), all depends on what I think I need and my mood at any given time.
 
Well don't get me wrong. I have tons of respect for Tom Bowlus and what he does at Bass Gear, and I believe they came by their results honestly. I'm just saying that someone else did some measurements as well and got pretty close to the 1000w, measuring both at the input and the effects loop, like 965 or 975w, which is well within the tolerance range of accuracy. Why there was such a disparity, I don't know, but I don't think it was agenda-driven on anyone's part who participated.

As for the "Show ignored content" notice that seems to have popped up, I'll be happy to answer anyone's questions the best I can except his.

Here's the Invalid Link Removed. We measured 763w continuous and 914w (usable) burst power (at 5% THN + N) out of the 7Pro, and that was going through the instrument input (as we do with all of our tests), and running certified Audio Precision continuous and burst power tests using our AP system. As I recall, the other test used the power amp input, did not employ the same THD + N figures, and did not utilize certified test protocols.

That all being said, over 900w burst is nothing to sneeze at.
 
It's nothing to sneeze at for sure. But it's nothing but lies to say it puts out 1000 watts. It's just more alternative advertising from scAmpeg

A usable 900+ watt burst is actually not that far off from a 1,000w rating, and in fact, closer than some other companies have come to the mark.

But I do remember a convo with Jerrold where he said that you had more than 120v and that could have affected the outcome. I get why you did it that way, but still, would like to see it done at a steady 120v and see what happens. At any rate, this is hardly the same as a company claiming a 240w amp is 750w, so a big whatever to those attacking Ampeg while ignoring their own favorite company's antics. And that's the last I will say on the topic.

To clarify, we do not test using a regulated power supply, as I do not know many bass players who gig out with a regulated power supply. The goal for our tests is to be as representative as possible of what a player might encounter on an actual gig. We currently measure and report the voltage (and voltage sag) observed during the test, though we did not do that back in issue #7. That being said, I recall it being somewhere around 123v, with a minimal sag (maybe to 121v or so).

I recently picked up a used SVT-7Pro used for $500. I was apprehensive at first because of the D class technology but decided to go ahead anyways. I had done a lot of research and wanted the best bang for my buck while having a great tone. I'm playing metal with 2 bludgeoning Death Metal guitarists with Mesa Dual Rectos so it's not like I will be all that important. I will say it was a great choice! I love my SVT-7Pro matched with my SWR Goliath Sr. 610 Cab. The guys say I have a great tone and I seem to cut through in the mix. I'm no Alex Webster but I'm getting heard which is awesome!

Sounds like a great and loud rig. Lovin mine with my Baer ML115. Surprisingly a lot actually. And I'm no @JimmyM but I'm getting heard too.

Well, just in case it's helpful to anyone else, I'll relate my svt7 experience here.

I recently picked one up used for a good price, and had it shipped to me. I didn't know too much about the history of this particular model beforehand, but remembered playing one briefly in the past and liking it. When I got it it immediately had the "cutting out" issue. I researched the problem and made a deal with the seller to get a partial refund, as it was usable up to a certain volume, and I wanted to try to repair it. It has a Rev A sticker, and had a Rev H00 board. I went ahead and ordered a new board, also Rev H, and replaced it. So far it works perfectly now, and I haven't been able to make it cut out again, despite my best efforts. Great sounding amp.
