Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

I added some vintage style bling to my 7-Pro - a Kason handle - a logo sticker - and a black lid.

I started fooling with it because I added some purple yoga mat pieces to stop a rattle.

+ I don't know why the images are flipped

Does anyone know if mainboard revision C00 is OK, or is it a hit and miss thing?
I thought they jumped from C00 to H01. Is that correct or are there revisions between the two?

I believe C00 is the chassis revision. H01 would be the main board. I believe mine was J.

Does anyone have a link to a DP8 heat-sink suitable for the updated ICE Chip? Also has anyone had any issues with the upgraded ICE Chip? May give another 7 pro a try. I’m extremely hesitant but maybe.

Be hesitant. Really. Anyway, these will do well but so will any heatsink which suits DIP packages. The ICE chip itself measures roughly 9x6mm. Use either thermal conductive tape (my preferred solution since it is easily undone) or thermal glue to fix the sink onto the chip.

Thanks for the info I appreciate it. I had two of the early 7 pros & a PF 800. Each one bit me . I’m sure the newest ones are on point and the problems have been fixed. I’m just gun shy but making my way to pull the trigger.

I left Ampeg after terrible experiences with multiple 7PRO's and a Portaflex, didn't look back and never regretted it. I now use a class-D Tecamp Puma 900 in conjunction with a RMI/Basswitch Sonic Spark preamp. On recordings it gets mistaken for Ampeg pretty often.

I still am not convinced that the newest revisions are faultless. You can get some faults out of a design by releasing a new revision. That however says pretty much nothing about quality control. I realize I am biased and would try to talk everyone out of buying a 7PRO or PF amp. Hopefully Yamaha's product management and quality control will increase the overall quality of Ampeg offerings back to the level the brand deserves

I thought about waiting for Yamaha to officially kick something into gear. I’ve been wondering what if anything they will be bringing to the table. I’ve had great luck with Ampeg gear since the late 80s. Played everything in between and I still make my way back home to Ampeg. Yes I got my soul crushed with the failings of their class D amps I had. I just went back to the lead sleds I knew and loved. It’s been a few years so I’m thinking of trying again. I do wonder how many people in the SVT 7 PRO club still have and use their 7 pros.

I "LOVE" my 1990s SVT3 non-pro.. Only 350 watts but one of the BEST tones ever!
When run clean it is About as close to my old SVT2 non pro..

Exactly what I'm wondering, too. It will take some time to integrate Ampeg into the Yamaha mothership and than there's the fact that a good product (fortunately) is not developed in a month. I'm patient.

If they come up with a class-D amp the size and weight of a Gallien Krueger MB Fusion 800 but with an Ampeg tonestack, a *real* tube preamp (like the one from the excellent SVT-4PRO) instead of a single 12AX7 gain stage marketed as a "tube preamp" (SVT-7PRO) and Yamaha QC I'd seriously consider spending my money on that

It seems that this would be the perfect amp to bring back to USA production at this point. There is so much competition out there (Mesa) that functions without problem AND has USA production behind it. Sad. I'd pick up a 7 today without this ridiculous history. Supposedly fixed but who knows.

Seems to be fixed but hard to tell for sure. It's a shame. It is a really nice sounding amp. Really captures Amepgness in a powerful compact package.

Question for you folks using the Ampeg 212av with the Pro 7. Wondering how you like this combo and how it’s working out. I just picked up a Pro 7 and searching for a cab to go with it. I have a couple old Genz Benz Uber cabs that I’ve never been able to part with-a 410 and a 115. They sound great with my Ashdown ABM 600. Not sure it’s working with the Pro 7. They are very open sounding cabs and I want something a little tighter. And I’m dialing back a lot of high end. I’d prefer the Ampeg 410 he- but at 91 pounds, that’s a deal breaker for me. I’ve read the 212av is in the ballpark of the same tonal footprint as the 810, which I like.And I like that it’s 4 ohm, and the weight is ok.

And I’m open to recommendations to what cabs anyone else is using!
