Ampeg SVT-7 Pro

I didn't read all the anwsers. But keep the -15db pad off, it's just a tone sucker. I use only active basses and noticed to avoid peak/clip or farting cabs, I usually lower amp EQ (especially the lows and the mids) to give more room/space for the instrument EQ. That way, I feel I can push the instrument EQ without damaging the cab or pushing it too far.

Marcus Miller explains it better than me here:

marcus is a great musician, thanks for the advice! I'll try to use the compression to maintain gain, volume, and tone. The BTB probably won't need any low or high boosts so I will definitely not use them with it. I still have to dial in the 5 preset eq

It's worth knowing that Marcus also blows up a lot of s**t. There was an article with one of his techs years back in Bass Player about this very topic. :)

If I had to guess I would say it was some kind of over heating issue that caused it to die because after about 5 minutes of play it would just shut off. I could wait a few minutes, cycle the power switch, turn it back on and it would power up and work for about 5 minutes before dying again. If you have spent time playing it and it worked throughout your playing I'd say it should be good. It really is a great amp and I love it. I always carry a backup with me though, but I would do that with any amp.

Ive had this amp for about two and a half months and i found that it sounds good with the gain maxed with a little compression. control volume with the master knob. Also, i have the bass and treble boost pushed in. Also, i dont use the -15db
Which cab do you use with this head? I just have the SVT410HE 8 ohm 500/1000 cab. So I'm really going over the RMS by 100 watts when using the head fully.

I have a compression pedal that I run always on so I've never used the amp's. Anyone else us a compression pedal and then use the amp's onboard compression?
That makes sense, I'm not sure how people do that. This is really my first amp with compression that I have even thought about it lol I had a fender bassman combo that had compression, but I got the Ampeg months after getting the fender. So I never really messed with compression. The fender was stolen.

That cab can probably take it, but never go strictly by numbers. If your cab sounds like it might explode, it will.
I've had this cab for almost 10 years, the same amount of time I had the b2re but the head only pushed 250 watts so it really hasn't seen this much power yet. I did add a 15" a while back but even then it only went to 450 @ 4 ohms.

Thanks you, the link I found didn't say anything about watt output. You would think they would say 450, and 750 rather than higher. So I bet the b2re wasn't even 250/450

Well, it did reach 914w burst power at 4 ohms, and our burst power test is a "usable burst," FWIW.
