Ampeg SVT 7PRO or GK 1001rb II ?

I have a GK 1001RB-II and believe it to be very under-rated as far as its wattage. I played a 4-Pro through a SWR Megoliath, and was rather disappointed with the output (EQ set flat, gain fairly high). Then I played my GK through the same cab at the same venue, with its EQ set flat, the woofer knob at noon and the input volume around 3 o'clock, the GK absolutely crushed the 4-Pro. Volume and tone-wise. I know this isn't related to a 7-Pro, but just wanted to point out the wattage inflation.

Volume aint volume. You would have to dime both amps through the same cab to know the difference. Measurable? Maybe. A/B audible difference dimed? Not likely.

If you're happy with the way the 7-PRO sounds, and it does get loud enough for your purposes, who cares if the volume knob says 9:00 or 12:00 or 3:00? Loud enough is loud enough...

I own both heads.. Love both.. I've A/B'd the heads through my Eden 410xlt 8ohm cab and the 1001 rb2 does have a little more headroom even with the lower wattage rating. (420w @ 8ohms.. The SVT-7 is 600w @8ohms).. With that said they both have distinct tones, are great amps and will do the job no matter the scenario.. Can't go wrong either way IMO... Enjoy...

GK 1001 RB II is by far louder than any Ampeg.
