Ampeg SVT-II appreciation thread

man that is a mean looking rig of doom!

I am also jealous! but happy that someones doing it

"Re the OD stuff... whats the Fulltone Bassdrive like??? -cost?? Bad Monkey?? how's the bottom end using the Bad Monkey????"

The full tone is very famous and should get the job done, perhaps it does not have an aggro dirty personality but sound quality wise it should be fine.

the bad monkey is almost there, not quite but you can get away with it, I think it produces a sort of punky dirty bass tone with my gear and to my ears. I like it, but wish it was truly full range, but for 40 bucks man it makes a more musical OD then a lot of more expensive pedals out there.

I am a perfectionist unfortunately .... so still searching for the perfect pedal

Understand what U mean re the BDDI-sounding like too much pre amp stuff goin on! Searchin.......

yeah it just does not work for me, I tried so many times, think I will retire it to the studio where it rules.

That Polish pedal sounds pretty dope though, I am hoping for one of those.

Thanx PULSE. & DANM sure U can as long as I aint using it. ;-)

On another SVT2 topic:- when I got my SVTII the DI out was working fine-NOW it's making a buzzing noise-I've read re a few others having probs w/ their SVTII DI's .........
Any thoughts on what it might be / cost involved to fix........remembering I AINT NO TECH by a Looong shot!!!

Ok for those interested in running the SVT II at high volume settings I did an experiment yesterday

I basically had a Trace Elliot SM7 eq pedal before the Amps input, this pedal has input level and output level controls and these effect the entire bass signal, bypassed or not,

this meant it was safe for me to turn my svt II up to noon (or close too as it almost hurts after noon :smug: )

and control the output level of my entire signal from my pedal.

Well things sounded more monster than normal, and the power running through the mesa 15s was insane.

Do you guys think this makes sense, essentially the power tubes are running hot but the pre amp signal is reduced to a healthy non ear damaging amount

in any case the sound was good for my tastes

Hi Guys

any advice would be great... Been using my SVTII for months now with my t bird, it has a strong juicey low end but the highs are not so stand out, then the other day I tried my back up amp Peavey Mark IV with the same cab and bass and there were way more highs and more punch. (but less juicey bass)

I bought the SVTII amp second hand and did not touch its tubes that it came with (original Phillips ones) do you think it needs a retube as the high end is considerably lower than the Peavey head.

Its my only and first Ampeg so I dont have any kind of reference to hand, just asking if this is a common symptom.

cheers
J

before I had the mesa there was not enough bass but there was plenty of highs, in fact the best balance is achieved with my mesa 2 x 15 and one schroeder 1212l running together at 2 ohms, then I have everything

but I dont want to use so many cabs.

the strange things is the mesa likes the peaveys high freqs more and reproduces them fine,

I dont know

do you think it might be a case of input level, hopefully my badder bass monkey pedal will give it a bit more punch and drive

how is yours rodl?

My workmate just told me he'll do a swap for my Traynor!! He wants a Shuttle 6.0 head so I'm going to order one from the US then sell the Traynor and give him the money.

It's a very round-about way of paying for the SVT but I don't care cause it means I'll have this beast very soon. One step closer to my perfect setup. Just need the Octavius Squeezer and a Darryl Jones 5 string.
