Ampeg SVT-II appreciation thread

My workmate has an early 90's SVT-II that he's looking to sell because of the weight. I've recommended the new Shuttle 6.0 and I'm quite keen to take his current amp off his hands. Will try it out with my NV610 and get back to you guys with what I think.

It's been retubed with KT-88's and has its case. He's never had a problem since buying it and getting it serviced (small issue straight after it had been shipped).

As mine's got the grill I haven't actually looked at 'em since I got it. Just to see if there all glowing right/ standing straight, etc. Must check what they actually are!!! But - yeah- SOUNDS GREAT so I aint changin' nuthin'.

+1 to the 12 0clock + thing..... I opened mine up a while ago(see my earlier posts in this thread) Distortion starts at about 12 & just gets dirtier = awesome!!!

Stupid Fu**ing nice gear!! I'm already paying off my cabinet and now I feel like I need another expensive piece of gear.

Played the SVT-II at a midday high-school gig today and it is truly amazing. There were a few hundred kids there and a big system but I still didn't get to push it very hard.

It has that classic old school funk and rock sound like nothing else out there. I love my YBA-200 but this thing is just awesome!

My only issue (like many others) is the weight. I'm 20 and fit but it was still a bit of a mission carting it about.

It's going for a pretty decent price so I think I'll be looking at getting it later in the year if he'll hold onto it til then.

My bank account thanks you all

it calls to us......

seriously though, having a good cab is the higher priority.

Wow, SVT 2 owners UNITE! I love it. Bought it new in '92 never had any issues with it. Ruby KT-88s - Bring the THUNDER! Have been thinking of downsizing, but I'd never be able to put this rig together again...

Please excuse the newbie......but I just got one of these yesterday and had to chime in.

I was doing my monthly survey of the pawn shops (one of my bandmates was robbed last year and her stuff is still showing up in the local shops) and saw one. I went through my musicroom and gathered up a bunch of stuff I hadn't touched in months and took it all in. My castoffs plus $400 and its mine. I may have been able to buy it outright if I sold all the stuff on my own but I had to have it right then.

That being said, I have a couple of questions.

First, the info I found regarding the serial numbers doesn't seem to apply. Mine is as follows: TNBZD10***. I'm guessing that it falls in the early eighties period that you can't date them. It is in the "cosmetic case" that I learned about earlier in this thread, is hardwired, and looks to have different knobs. Any ideas?

I like the cosmetic case but mine doesn't have the grill over the tubes. I was thinking about building front and back covers to protect it during transport. Has anyone come up with anything?

Finally, I was reading about the Bergantino cab that everyone seems to love so much. I was amazed when I saw they go for damn near $1800 US. Until recently, I was using a 410HLF with my v4bh but then switched to a svt210 and svt15 because one person can carry each cab. I guess my question is, what would this cab do for me that mine won't? I'm curious but that is a whole buncha gigs to buy that cab.

My apologies for the long post. Thanks for any input.

Congrats sirdugh, your amp seems to be of a January 1991 vintage:

My origanal SVT-II knobs dont seem to be very well made, someone probably just replace yours with a different style.
These will fit and appear origanal:

Your cabs should work fine, but here's a bunch of NV610 info you could study:
