Ampeg SVT Users... What is your Rig (cabs/bass)?

Wow, what a timely question! This past Tuesday, I picked up my 1969 Blue Line SVT head from the shop, and it's running again for the first time in about 10 years. It's not only from the first year, but it's from the very first run (you can tell by the tube relay socket in the back). I pair it with a straightback SVT cab with all new recones for the '73 CTS 10"s inside it. I don't know if the cab itself is a '73 or a '69, but the head is definitely a rare find. I've only seen one other like it. Seems to me it was a TB member. Most people replaced the 6146B's in them with 6550's...why, I'll never know. 6146B's are the shizzy!

I've never met an SVT I didn't like, but this one...holy cow! It was never in good repair after I got it thanks to a crappy tech who did some really stupid repairs, so I never knew just how good it was. I've played on every kind of SVT, but this is by far the best sounding SVT I have ever heard. And for those of you wisenheimers who think I'm just saying that because I own it...you're right!

To all of you 3-Pro owners, how loud have you found it to be? I know that 450 Ampeg watts is going to be different from 450 Behringer watts, and I'm looking for a head to do small-to-medium sized gigs and have plenty of power leftover.

I used to think my 3 Pro was underpowered until Jerrold Tiers hipped me to the fact that the input light by the gain knob is not a clipping light but a level indicator that should be lit up pretty consistently. I could turn the gain on mine up pretty much all the way without getting audible distortion, and once you do that, it's got plenty of power.

Well, depends on what you mean by "good care." I'm certainly not getting anywhere close to rich doing it, and he complains that I'm too loud all the time, even though it's the subs. It's actually a bit of a soul-sucker at times. But the checks clear, low as they are for the amount of work we put into it.

Yeah, I had a bad trip...I know that will be your next question ;)

Oh, I'd take that rig over just about anything out there (if I had a vehicle to handle the fridge). Sure beats the heck out of your Markbass stuff.:D
