Ampeg SVT7PRO vs Carvin BX1500

Which one do you think is better? I am looking for a good bass head for gigs. Any suggestions for a good cabinet to play it through?

Both Carvins are higher powered, weigh less, and are made in the USA

I own the older Carvin BX1200 and have played the Ampeg 7 PRO before. The Carvin will have more clarity, better midrange punch, more string articulation, and better control of the low end when compared to the Ampeg.

Coming from using SVT 4 PRO's, the 7 PRO sounded about the same. Ampeg tone works for many, but not for me.

In the end though, both heads will serve you well at shows. The Carvin head should be cheaper and will have more wattage to use at shows. The nice thing about Carvin heads - there is not a mountain of low end when you set the controls flat. The Ampeg 4 PRO always had that and I generally cut the lows live to actually hear my bass tone. Otherwise, it was bunch of woofy and muddy madness. Still though, the Ampeg tone can be wonderful to the right person.

I owned the 7 pro for a few months. It was capable of the typical ampeg sound. i found that it clipped out very easily under a decent load and shut down on me for a few seconds. I was switching back and froth from a mesa 400+ to try and see how close it would get volume wise. It did fairly well untill i pushed it. tone wise it was great tho. especially for 800 bux. great bang for your buck. dont believe the 1000 watts it claims tho. i was pushing an ampeg 810 with it also
