Ampeg teasing us again

It handled and sounded like an SVT with a broken leg. I think the power section was truly it's weakest point. It seemed like they just plopped it out of some random "100w" EL34 guitar amp. I think upping the voltage and some substantial iron would have done wonders for that amp and it's role as a Mini-Me SVT.

I'm in the market for a tube amp for my svt810, and a 100 watt Ampeg would be perfect!

The CL's are massively overpriced here in europe (I could get a brand new handbuilt Matamp gt200 for the same price), and I don't really need 300 watts.

Hope you're right Jimmy, I guess you if anyone would know:)

+1 I will bet good money the older ones sound better but I guess you could pair a reissue Ampeg with your expensive custom shop Fender Precision replica?

+1 on buying vintage/used... I got my VT-22 combo for $500 and picked up a fliptops headcase to a tune of $200. It was well worth it. That's probably my all time favorite amp head when set atop the SVT CTS loaded 410 I've got. Ampeg will have a very hard time selling me on another V4B. ;)

Then again, I'm probably not the target market. Jimmy might just have to get his V4B on again. How many years has it been since that club fire? :D

Gee, that sounds a lot like my B-15R.

100W all-tube. And switchable to 40 or 60W.

And it looks bitchin', to boot!

Another old timer here. It's been a long time for me too since I had a V4B (23 years I think). Used one for club work all through the late 70's and 80's. I ran mine with an SVT810 cab. Still say that combination was the BEST bass tone I've ever had! Sold the combination in 90 when I scaled down. I'm embarassed to tell you all what I scaled down to from the V4B/SVT810 setup.

what he said, and i hope they put some serious iron it too. iron big enough could handle a quartet of 6550's/kt88's on it's own if the customer desired. a dual voltage option switch for the power tranny would be sweet, rather than running the bigger glass at less than optimal voltages. iow all the v4b's goodness but with more clean headroom. NO MASTER VOLUME. hey i can dream can't i?

FWIW, you could put a replacement output transformer for the old V4B into the V4BH. I have talked with the Mercury guys extensively and we have concluded it would work. V4BH output transformer seems less iron than the old B25B had. I have a B25B with a Mercury V4B output Transformer and it sounds huge for a 55 watt amp.
