Ampeg V-4B, newer model

I can buy this amp for $400. I did a search and found/read a little bit but I am looking for some opinions.

I have an all original '71 SVT 810 cab which I would run it through as well as (alright, I know that most of you guys hate it but I have found it to be a fine amp so please don't blast me) a Carvin R1000 with the matching 4-10" & 18". I could run the head through either of these cabs as well if I liked the tone and found it useful.

As I read & understand it, the V-4B is sold as a 'slimmed down' SVT. What do you guys thinnk of these newer models....this IS NOT a vintage era amp. I will test it myself later in the week or next week but I would like to hear opinions on tone, reliability (I understand common tube amp issues), price, and whatever else you want to comment on.

Thanks,
m

I'd buy it. I saw a friend's band this past weekend, and the bass player was paying thru the V4B. I'm sure that it was cranked, and that reminded me why I shouldn't have sold my SVT a few years ago.

Well, to be fair to myself, I sold it because it could only make "the sound". While that sound might not always be what you want, it is "the sound". And as others have pointed out with 100w you can get "the sound" at lower volumes.

Damn it all, now I'm GASing for another tube ampeg. :bassist:
