Ampeg V4 Club

I have also had good luck recently trying something I learned here not long ago. You can get a countryman DI Type 85. (If the PA company is any good they will have these or something similar.) And you can run "speaker level" DI. There;s a switch on the DI box that says "instrument/speaker" on it. Throw it to the speaker side. Then just run your speaker cable right off the back of the head into the DI, and another one into the speaker cab. Then when the sound guy hooks up his XLR cable going to the mains, he will be getting the full compliment of your amp. And it;s much easier to tell a sound guy "Here's my countryman DI" than "Here's my mic." We won't even know that you are running speaker level.

Forgot about those things. Honestly, I could have done the slave amp out, but if I said that I know I wouldn't have gotten a mic. Maybe if I said it's just a big guitar, he would of put a mic on my cab like he did for the gits... A speaker sim would be great if you're pre speaker, but it looks like that only comes with the more expensive Radial.

Sweet! I just picked up an empty V4 cab and am deciding between 2012s or 2512s.

Spec wise pretty similar, just different upper mids. I have a NIB Basslite just waiting for me to finish my test cab. But I've been happy with the Deltalites so far.

As of last week, I became the proud owner of a 1974 V4B, bought from the original owner! The amp is in great shape - it was well taken care of. I've only had a few minutes to play it so far, but I like what I've heard.

My bass is a late '60s p-bass with LaBella flatwounds and the amp is currently running through a Harry Koble single 12 cabinet. It's a funny combination aesthetically, but the Koble (aka SoundSmith) cabinet is smooth and transparent, so the Ampeg tone is comes through nicely.

Someone posted something on TalkBass a while ago about how the tone circuits in the V4B react different depending on your volume - I want to know if this includes the "lo" switch. I'll search, but if anyone knows what I mean can you point me to the thread?

Happy to have joined the club!

Got a decent hiss coming from my amp when its powered on, a lot lighter while in standby but its still there a little, louder when completely on. Screwed with the hum control, its in the sweet spot but its still hissing. General consensus is to try switching out preamp tubes? It happens on both inputs btw. Also, not that I ever use it but when I switch on the ultra lo sometimes it doesnt change all the way and its intermittent. Easy fix? I never use it so maybe its just dirty, it isnt a necessary fix I guess since I dont use it just curious.

bumping again. Was playing today and while not playing anything there started to be a light fluttering? coming from my speakers. thought maybe the power to one of my pedals came a little loose, checked all connections wasnt that. put the amp into standby, waiting a minute or so and took it out of standby and it wasnt happening anymore and didnt happen again for the next 25 mins I was playing. Any ideas?
