I would say the giveaway is the mid-selector being a mismatch. The original knobs all matched. There was an AV version of the V4BH (see this thread) for a brief time, but even those knobs don't match the ones you have. Either way, no big deal really. If you want the all original look those same ampeg knobs are still in production and easy to get.

I just finished loading a V4 cab with 4 Eminence s2012's for use with my 76 V4B. All I can say is WOW!! What a punchy tone and perfect match for the V4B!!

Totally set with my gig rig!! I recommend this cab highly!

What is the size of the V4 (4 12 cab) ?? it is sealed also correct???

It is sealed. About 1.1cf per driver I think has been quoted before.

There's a V4B on SF Bay CL with "a new transformer, power switch and KT88's." Is that even possible? I've heard of switching to 6550's, but never to the KT's. Does it require the new transformer (my guess)? And iirc would raise it to a 200W head, right?

Output or power transformer? If it can switch to 6550s it can switch to KT88s, it's just a matter of fitting them in. If it's a drop in replacement OT then no, still 100 watts. If it's a new power transformer it could be due to the KT88/6550 conversion.

Wow I just got my V4 back today. It has the same two rocker white switches as the one in the picture. It took about 1 month in the shop. Mine had a blown transformer. The tech missed fixing the bass dial, but it still sounds good. I am using it with a 4x10 1/2 a svt cabinet. GT

'72-'75 V4 + '77 B25B CAB

My V4 has the 6550's mod with a non stock Output transformer, and can switch only between 4, 8 and 16 Ohms.
I don't know why they replaced it...This modification was done by the previous owner in the 90's.

Nevertheless, it sounds thunderous and looks stunning paired with the B25B cab!!!
I dropped a pair of Eminence Delta 15A instead of the stock CTS speakers, and it handles the power without problem!
It's my main amp since 2007 and for sure, that's a keeper!

Hey, new member and new owner of a V4.
I've wanted one for a while and happened upon one at my local flea market. it was a bit of a gamble since it had no power tubes. but i got tubes, got it serviced, and got a burnt hole in one of the circuit boards repaired and now it is awesome.
there is a difference between mine and the rest of the 72-75 v4's i've seen: despite my faceplate being very warn, there is no dB rating underneath the Sensitivity switches. it isn't that it has warn off, but there was never room for it in the first place.
any info on what this means? an age range?

Your midrange selector also just says 1 2 3, no frequencies. Could be an earlier version or someone just fudged up on the silk screening. Mine was a 73 or 74 I believe:

Here is a picture of my finished V4 cab that is loaded with Eminence s2012's. Also has a new grill from fliptops.

Just had the head serviced with new caps and resistors, and I splurged on some NOS RCA and Sylvania preamp tubes. I have 3 year old Sylvania 7027's in there for power tubes.

Sounds phenomenal! I should be set for a few years

i have been offered a v4 or v4b or vt22 a few times now in trade for my sunn 200s. what is your opinions on the v4 vs the 200s? im afraid the sunn wont be powerful enough for a full band, but i love its tone. never played through a v4, but have herd it before. helps me:?

The V4's output were underrated by Ampeg. They ussaully bench test +/- 120 watts clean. I don't know about the Sunn though.

I think I've seen posts from johnk_10 on here that the ones he's checked have been more like 110W.

Regardless, isn't the 200S 120W or more?

Looks like a no-brainer for vegedge. He loves the Sunn tone, and it's at least as powerful as the Ampeg. So, he should keep the Sunn.

If it's not loud enough for his band, he should probably look at adding more speakers to his cabinet setup.
