Ampeg V4 Club

Here it is. Today I will hear it for the first time. Can't wait!

Yesterday I picked up a V6b cabinet in very good original shape. But...why on earth does the brochure say it's as wide as the V4? It is a couple of inches short!
Anyway, I'm still gonna use it as is, but after a 3 hour drive I'm pretty dissapointed.

This doesn't sound right. Could you post a picture?

Are the vintage V4Bs wider than the reissues at all?

Hello everyone! I had an SVT a few years ago and it just never clicked with me compared to my GK head. Well it looks as though my band days are behind me and in looking at vintage stacks. A 3 hr drive away there is a Magnavox era V-4B for sale for about $700. Worth the trip?

Or I only spend $450 and order this without playing it

Depends on what you are looking for tone wise. If you want an Ampeg tone go V4. Those are nice amps and the price is decent.

I have just seen a lot of people say they sold their SVT because of getting a V-4b. I have only played an SVT as far as ampegs tube amps go. I have a GK and an SWR currently so my clean tones are covered. I am wanting something that gets that real warm and wooly overdrive to crank it through two 15s. The Ashdown CTM series really intrigues me but finding one under 1000 is tough. The CTM 30 they make would be perfect for me at home but worry about volume if I would want to play it live ever.

The V4B won't be quiet but will do this wonderfully

Would you say a B25b head for and the matching cab with blown speakers for $300 with a 100w Weber impedance switcher to use the head with any cab set up is a good deal? I'd have to do an 8 hour round trip to get it though.

I'd pay $300 for just a working B25B. And if I bought that rig, I'd re-cone those speakers. If they are the Altec 421A's, bonus. The B25B can power a 16 ohm cabinet or an 8 ohm cabinet with a dummy plug in the extension speaker jack....or, of course, two 16 ohm cabinets.
