Ampeg V4 Club

I have a 70’s flatback 810 with 2005-era USA Ampeg 10s (USA Eminence made, Part # 86-032-01 10324A). They sound really good to my ears with my V4B-RI, but I don’t think they are a match to the originals.

I have heard that the Heritage 810 is as close as anyone has come to the original 810, but the drivers are special order from Ampeg, and it’s almost imposssible to get them unless you already own a Heritage cab.

If you don’t mind “close” then I think your choices listed above are good, and I have had a great experience with 12” Emenince Basslites (USA-made), so the 10” variant might be something to consider too.

An original V4 cab might suit as well, and likely cost less than the FlipTops unloaded cab (that’s what I put the Basslites in and I love it with my V4B). You can generally find them for $300 - $400 or so in OK to Good shape with speakers intact.

Is that the 4x12 V4 cab?

I wonder how that sounds to Ampeg’s 810 design.

I just did some reading on a couple V4 cab threads and like the idea of a V4 212 sealed cab..

Idea: have FlipTop.net build a V4 sized cab with two 12s down the center and each separated internally like an 810 cab.

I could even port one chamber and have the best of both a sealed and porter cab in one.

Interesting idea. As long as the speakers you put in it would work well in the chamber size allotted to it, it would probably be OK. Without running the numbers through a modeling system, though, there’s no telling.

No clue how the sealed and ported chambers would work or not work together. It might be worth a separate thread to have some of the sound design folks around here weigh in.

I’m on the hunt for a V4B. I’m having dreams of a wet/dry rig with my Bassman 100t, also to have a backup rig that is similar. But first my due diligence, so:

What’s the difference between the current V-4B with silver cloth, and the older one with the black grill, that looks to be housed in the same box as the SVT CL. I see many of them pop up with good used prices. Are they inferior to the latest version, or just older?

FYI, that thread is about two (virtually or completely) identical amps from the 90's and not the current V4B. The current V4B is an attempt to reissue the orignal from the 70's. The other amps from the 90's were not. They were 100 watt versions of the SVT-CL ...or at least seem to have the same front-end.
Yes, though there is plenty of bonus talk about the reissue. Enough at least to answer my question and draw some conclusions.

I have a PF-50T. I absolutely love it. But I played a V-4B Reissue the other day and I can't stop thinking about it. I've played an SVT-CL too, but I think the V-4B with a 212 cab might be the best thing I've ever heard.

A guy literally came up to me at Guitar Center and said "That's a really good sounding bass." I had to tell him it wasn't the bass (a Player Series P-bass) but the amp. I'm kind of tempted to spend all my time in that Guitar Center now. I would buy the amp and the cab, but I've got a guitar on layaway I need to finish paying off.

I just bought a fully services and like new V4. Sound absolutely stunning and I love it more than the SVT VR I had.

I will get a V6b cabinet soon for it. I think it will work out nice.

Nice find. I have a Linden, NJ verison of the V4B and I actually prefer the tone over the SVT's I had at the time. Although I have it loaded with some nice vintage preamp tubes.
