Ampeg V4--V4B--V4 Cabinet Question

I did a bunch of searching here, but I can't seem to find the answer.
I know the Ampeg V4--V4B heads differ in the B version does not have reverb.
How about the cabinets? Is the V-4 Cab a bass cab? I am talking about the 4-12 non ported cab. I found one and used it for last nights jam. I worked fine and sounded great when used as an extention cab along with my Peavey 1820 cab. I was powering it with a Peavey MarkVlll. We were playing quite loudly, I had the head at about the noon position both per gain and post gain.
600 watts, 4-12's 2-10s and 1-18. What were we thinking? Sometimes ya just gotta play loud! :D
Anyway, after last night I can only assume the cabinet is ment for bass, but if it's not, it held up really well!

Thanks,
Ken R

I have a V4 4x12. I was told it's a guitar cab. I've used it as an extension with a 15" and was told not to bring it to gigs.(too loud). I think it works great for bass.
I had a hard time finding info as well . The one I have has the made in Linen N.J. sticker inside the grill, so it's early 70's.

I had it sold, deal fell threw, kind of glad it didn't go.

DW,
Thats the one! Square magnets and all. Made in Linden NJ.

More and more I like the sound of 12s.

66P,
2-15 and folded, huh? I guess that was the V4-B cab. I kinda thought that there was a bass specific cab.

Hummmmmm.........Put both together...........:hyper:

It would make sense that the V4/V4 4x12 would be a guitar set up with reverb. I guess anything with a "B" would be for bass.
Ken, I like the 4x12 for bass and if you do by all means use it. I believe this a 8 ohm cab if that helps you.
I was never much for collecting vintage stuff but I wound up with some because people got tired of having it take up space like the Guild 69' 2x15 I have and this V4.
I'm kinda scratching my head as too why I just dumped $1700 into a new ampeg rig right now?

The V-4 head and 4X12 cabinet were/are strictly a guitar setup... That being said, I used that exact setup exclusively for bass a number of years ago, (it killed!)... My main amp today is, well... a V-4! I'd love to fine another 4X12 cab... keeping my eyes open...

I had a V4B amp with cabinet. The cab was the size of a small refrigerator with wheels and a handle built in so it could be tilted back and rolled.
It was a folded horn design with 2 Altec Lansing 15s and HEAVY.

Those things sounded great too as long as you stood far enough away from them for the bass to develop. Same size as an SVT cab but about twice the depth. They reissued those for a little while I believe sometime during the late 90's.

Quite a few guitarists used Ampeg amps over the years, and their stuff is excellent. The problem is that Ampeg amps are voiced for flatness more than anything, and guitarists like the scooped sound of Fenders and Marshalls better. So they still make guitar amps but only a handful of guitarists use them anymore.

Ampeg also made a 4x12 V4-B cab.

around 40” tall x 29” wide.
had glides on the bottom and one side, and 3 handles on the other side.
it came loaded with Altecs.

(the other measurements I posted (48x36) were incorrect.
It wasn't an Ampeg cab, but it had the blue grill cloth and was badged as one.}

I also used a V-4 cab for bass, but not with the stock speakers...

I'd had the cab laying around, given to me by a guitarist, and replaced the 4 -12's
with some high wattage Carvins that were very cheap at the time, then powered
this with my old SVT head. I gotta tell ya, it rocked. Not quite the full SVT treatment,
but very full and very powerful... added an 18 folded horn cab once in a while for louder gigs,
and that's some of my nicer memories.

old school, lo-tech, big balls bass rig.

Hello. Newbie here. I was referred to this thread by a fellow who was trying to help me to identify an ampeg cab I have. The cab is a 4 X 12 but measures differently than does the cab mentioned above by metalmariachi. This cab measures exactly the same as a 2 X 15 cab that was under a B-25 that I measured side by side with this one. This cab measures 40 X 29 3/4 X 11/3/4. Any clues as to what this is would be appreciated.
