Ampless Bassist's Club?

Having only taken up bass fairly recently, and playing in a setting with IEMs and no amps on stage, count me in.

There's not much point in me getting an amp at the moment - I'm just straight into the DI box.

(The guitar amp, or occasionally amps, are in a room behind the stage and mic'd up.)

Yah - same here. I was going to use my MB200 into a pair of SVT-210AV's for this project but pretty much ran the amp flat and when I bought and started to use my wireless ears it just seemed silly to have an amp too. You can be "Ampless Bassist's Club #3" if you like :D .

I have a pair of 310A's in my PA - they are really nice :) . I also occasionally noodle through my home stereo which has a very different tone than a bass amp. I pretty much enjoy any tone I get and can deal with it by varying my playing technique :cool: .

I gigged for a long time with a little B100R on stage for a monitor, with a DI into the board. We didn't have IEMs, but that would have been my choice. These days I'm not in a regular gigging band, so I carry around the minimum: either a Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T or a Mesa/Boogie Walkabout head + 2 G-B 10Ts. I'd love to lose them, but I can't depend on finding myself in a situation with an adequate PA.

I technically had a guitar amp that did not do it for me (Peavy VTX Classic with 2 12s (scorpion speakers)). Before that I had a shotty bass amp that was given to me. Before that.. nothing. So I was technically ampless because I could not afford one. Did not have monitors or any sound system lol

I played for 20 years without one. Used various DIs along the way. Some DIs that I've used produced a sound much better than any dedicated rig could do, depending on the PA of course. :)

I just recently had to build a rig because of the noise in the clubs I've been playing.

I played for years without one too. An in-ear monitor failure during a performance made me break down and get a combo for monitoring. I still technically DI, but I run a parallel out to my combo. And I despise in ear-monitors to this day.
