Ampless Bassist's Club?

#3 Checking in.

Still no rig on my country gigs after all these years. Main bass is a Barker with a Redeemer preamp, alternate is a Sadowsky. I run a Cinemag transformer DI. I am totally happy with my FOH sound with either of my basses direct.

I do run a rig for blues and jazz work, Ampeg PF-50T and an EVM 15 in a TL606.

Everytime I try to take that step, something happens.
Last time, our guitarist/singer's iem system was not working properly, so i gave him mine and played without (we had no monitor wedges and the FOH was moved away from the stage, so he could not hear himself while i had enough sound of the other instruments to barely get by). Since we haul a lot of gear, it really is no hassle to take one more 212 cab and a class D head.

Please include me. Been ampless at gigs the past four years. Wireless, BDDI, mixer. I send a signal from BDDI to a Korg rack tuner and user IEMs. Had some custom ears made for my Shure SE215 and they work great. Drummer uses IEM as well. Singer and guitarist use monitors, no amps on stage.
I run sound and makes my job so much easier.

Since a two months now i'm ampless and i'm loving it. So i, absolutely will join this club.
Most of the gigs i play a Pearl jazz bass or Fender Flea jazz bass. Directly plugged in a Behringer Xair 18.
Wireless Transceiver is a low budget ANT ING20 with Fender FXA2 IEM's.
All musicians do the IEM mix with their own smartphone. It's a app called Behringer Q.
Since last week we have a female soundengineer for the FOH, so cool and she's very very good. She's uses a small laptop.
For small venues we use our own p.a. an for big gigs we go from Xair directly to the main mixer.

Hey ampless folks, what's equipping your pedalboard with an XLR output and why? There are a few options and I wonder what's your opinion on them.
  • Use a preamp pedal (they usually come with drive)
    • Pros: Works on even the smallest boards
    • Cons: You'd prefer to put modulation/time-based FX after EQ and dirt, but that renders either the FX or the XLR output useless
  • Put a DI box on the board
    • Pros: You could even use a passive DI if there's a buffer in one of your pedals
    • Cons: Can't really think of any significant cons. Maybe it's a waste of space if you don't use it often, and most venues would provide a DI anyway.
  • Cab simulator pedal
    • Pros: Great for IEMs
    • Cons: Can't think of any cons, but I don't see a use for such pedal since I don't use IEMs.
