AmpliTube iRig & Peavey AmpKit Link iPhone app kits

I have AmpKit, the hardware and software. It's OK for bass as a headphone practice amp. Very noisy and not loud through an amp or powered speakers. I thought maybe I just needed to download the bass amp but that didn't really help much. I wouldn't consider this applicable for anything other than practicing alone.

I have downloaded both apps in the free version and added the bass amp both companies offer. Overall, the Ampkit program is better feature-wise, IMO. I do prefer aspects of Amplitube though and they specifically are the bass amp model ( SVT Classic ) and the ability to loop sections of a song. The main features of Ampkit that I prefer are the ability to record within the app and that it features full multi-tasking support. AMplitube will shut down anytime you leave the program.

Soundwise- I prefer the sound of Amplitube's bass setting. Here is a sample of both programs

I think these are great tools for practicing and really don't think of them as much more. I wouldn't use these apps live or for recording.

Sorry I'm late to the party - we've been cranking quite a bit on the new version of Ampkit - We've got some very exciting things coming.

shogun - if the output isn't big enough, have you tried tapping the LEDs at the bottom right and pushing your input/output settings? That's sometimes overlooked.

Since the update there are settings which let you fine tune the input/output gain into the app so I imagine you can eliminate the problem of feedback. I personally never had an issue with feedback while using the iRig. My only complaint with it are the price as it's hard to believe it costs more than a couple of dollars to put together and then to sell it for $40 seems a bit excessive.

Choice of input aside, I've found Amplitube2 to sound superior to Ampkit when using the available bass amps. Amplitubes loop/speedtrainer trumps Ampkit also.

I was planning on getting the iRig but in my local GC store they only had the Peavey AmpKit (Which I didn't know about). Does each other's software recognize each others hardware....could that be interchangeable was my biggest question? Has Anyone tried it? :hmm::hmm:

Thanks to the original poster, I found the answer to my question and more. Yes the apps are interchangeable and the AmpKit Link being Battery powered doesn't have the crosstalk issues the iRig has.... so that is enough for me to go buy the AmpKit Link to get started. Thanks guys for the discussion thread. Andrew

I find Ampkit and Amplitube quite close. The sound on both is as good (using iRig). On my iPod Touch 2g i find Amplitube better when i use play along track while Ampkit have slowdowns and crash's. Ampkit have many effect box's and many amps. But on both i find only 2 usefull amps: the ampeg and ac30 on amplitube and the bassman and ac30 on the ampkit. Tonewise i find then equal, but ampkit is better regardind exporting recorded tracks (to soundcloud).

I have issue's playing along a music track on ampkit. Slowdowns and crashes, which I've no issues with amplitube. Any fix in later updates?

The 2.0 upgrade to amplitube was a pain. Lot of ticked off people. They have at least fixed the fubar's on two of the major issues. What was simple in the first version is now multi steps in the second. I honestly haven't used it in weeks. The crappy sound since the update has been a big turn off. I loved it until the update. Now I just use my ipod straight through my amp and use my m13 for all the effects I need. Sounds a hell of a lot better.

I was thinking about using this as an effects solution. I am gonna try it at practice and see what happens. I really don't care much for having to use the amps. I would rather just use it without an amp setting. or cabinet or mic. I think amplitude may have a bypass on the amp/speaker.

Just to add my experience: I started with the iRig/Amplitube combo which was decent until the update that jacked to sound which is now useless. Downloaded Ampkit and am delighted at the improvement. I also like the fact that I can play along with any music on my iPhone without having to import it (as you do in Amplitube which also, by the way, crashed the app every time). I know the sound would be even better if I got the Ampkit link but not sure if it's worth the additional money over the iRig.

I am not sure what you mean by the update the "jacked to sound" ?

I actually prefer Amplitube myself. The update includes a far better looper for playing along with music IMHO. I deleted Ampkit but I seem to recall you don't have much control over the music playback if you want to practice to the music on your phone/pod.

Problems with crashing on any ios device can usually be solved by a hard reset ( not just powering off )

Sorry, should say "jacked the sound". I found after the last update the sound quality was way worse. Installed ampkit and it was great compared.

Yes, there is more playback control in Amplitube and the looping is great for te extra tricky phrases, but every time I imported a song into Amplitube, it crashed -- hard reset or not. I prefer a lot of things in Amplitube, but of the sound coming out of it is rubbish, what's the point?

The last update FUBar'd a lot of stuff. The sound is horrible now. I post over on TGP as well. They changed a lot and screwed a lot up. Made simple things much harder and the ability to get a good sound without a noise gate almost impossible.

They screwed a lot of folks on this one. Having spent that much dough on the whole thing just pi$$ed me off. AT folks could care less...they just say send us a sound file so we can figure it out. Bad FAQ section, Help is useless...it took major complaining on TGP before they updated either.

Sad part was the first version rocked. I loved it.

Proceed with caution.
