I don't have the time or energy to hate anything, especially innocent inanimate objects. Ampeg amps can't help it if they suck. Ditto Peavey, Carvin, Crate, GK and Trace. If they suck, that is.

My only amp used to be a Rogue 120 watt 1x15 combo. Rogue is horrible. There was absolutely no clarity after certain volumes. Certain meaning like... above 3. Musician's Friend should stick to selling equipment rather than making it.
I'm surprised at all the SWR bashings and all. Actually, I don't particularly care for the sound I get ALONE from my Workingman's 4004. It sounds way to brittle and edgy. Then, when the rest of the band starts playing, it's just the right amount of... everything really. I just tried the amp with ONLY the 4x10. No low end. It kind of upset me. All the mids were there, but it was like someone dropped all the low-end. I then disconnected this and connected ONLY the 1x15. Exact same thing. No low end. Completely confused, I plugged the 4x10 back in, and all my low end reappeared. Anyone care to explain what happened? Other than that, I love the sound I get while I'm playing with the band.

Hey, I expected a lot more Trace Elliot bashing!!! C'mon Trace bashers, keep it going so I can buy all the old Trace gear I want at absurdly low prices and get a myriad of tones that equal or better all of the overpriced and overhyped systems of the moment. THANKS!!!

You guys have to remember that matching your bass to the amps is very important. I love a P-bass with an SWR rig, but not my modulus.
Also, older SWR speakers were very good, especially the Goliath II and Triad cabs (I've been less impressed with Goliath Jr and Big Ben). I used those with a 1000 watt Ampeg/Eden rack setup for a long while and I don't think any of you would have complained about the sound.

yeah I forgot Hartke's... I was forced to play 2 of these at warped tour... wow what a horrible amp + cab. (XLs I believe). Way to bright and just plain ghetto sounding
I think all the ampeg hate is from people that like to be more out infront with their sound. I think a great sounding amp sounds best when blended with your band. I think it's silly to call it a "boring" tone.. I don't think I've ever heard a boring sounding bass tone that was the fault of the player.
I used to play a 70s era Ampeg SVT, that thing could get your girlfriend pregnant.. so yeah not boring. Very growly, very deep very distinct, and I'm very stupid for selling it.

I have a personal vendetta against anything SWR, too many have tried to kill me or my friends in the past. I am sure thet resolved all QC related problems that caused the bad units, but I don't care, I am scarred for life (literally). You touch the chassis and wake up in the hospital 2 days later? Once is enough for me, thanks. When the bass tech from a very famous SWR endorsee wont even touch the amps without first donning a welders glove because of a similar incident, you know there is (was) a problem.
Eden Metro.... tried one in a store and I blew it up in under 5 minutes. They sent it back, got a whole new unit, and I blew that up in under 2 minutes. I am done, thanks. I like other Eden stuff, alot, I just see that as one giant lemon.

Ditto that. I've played through my friend's TNT/BW and I owned a T-Max for a short while. The TNT had zero low end, zip, nada. It's all mids. Don't even think about using a 5 with it. The black widow will act like it wants to jump out of the cab. Very little definition, dynamics are almost unnoticeable. The 2 things the TNT did great was sound aggresive and not be too bright with a pick. For those 2 reasons alone I was sometimes jealous of it (at the time).
The T-Max was noticeably better through my Peavey 4X10 but still had that Peavey tone. So-so lows and definition with dynamics not standing out too much.
My GK 1001RB-II is a thing of beauty. Great tone, growl, definition, and the right hand dynamics really shine through.
Peavey everything, Hartke anything, and ampeg cabs.
I've grown to discover they are too muddy for my taste, I love the amps, pre amps though.

I can't eek a pleasing tone out of any of the SWR stuff. I know other players that get what they want from SWR but it doesn't work for me.

There isn't an amp I've tried from any of the decent manufacturers that I couldn't coax a useable sound out of. Even Crate. If you can't get at least a useable sound out of any reasonable-quality amp, there's something else wrong.
That being said, I'm not a big fan of Hartke, older Peaveys (the newer heads/cabs are pretty decent) or Fender bass amps.
I also can't get my head around people finding that Ampeg stuff isn't aggressive sounding. Especially the all-tube stuff. You mean a Jazz bass through an all-tube SVT and 810 isn't aggressive sounding? I would consider it very aggressive.
My '76 SVT and Berg NV-610 is punchy, tight and snarly and quite aggressive...... Oh well....

I do find that horn tweeters are offensive sounding in general. Compression drivers have no place in bass cabs IMO. Coaxial or cone-type HF drivers sound much better and have better directional characteristics to boot.
