Sure, there's gonna be amps some prefer, and some you just don't like. That's just a matter of taste. But you haven't even approached a really hate-worthy amp in this thread.

Surely I'm not the only old fart who can remember the old padded, sparkly, "tuck and roll" Kustom amps. Yeesh!

Are you kidding me!?!?! No, you aren't the only "old fart" who remembers cutting your teeth on those beautiful, gorgeous cabinets and amps. Sounded like pure fecal matter.....but DAMN were they good looking!!! Reminded me of my old 57 Chevy!!!:D :D :D :D

Actually, come to think of it....there was another "lesser known" outfit that made the same cabinets and amps, but for the life of me, I can't recall who it was.....

I read the first 5-6 pages of this thread and jumped to the end. I really don't think I 'hate' any amp. Obviously I like some amps better than others. With that understanding in mind I'd have to say that dollar for dollar I've found Ampeg heads the most disappointing of all the current amps in view of their price. To my ears they don't sound very loud and I only enjoyed the sound of the most expensive models. I find the Ampeg cabinets rather boxy sounding.

Further, I've never been able to dial in a decent sound on my Eden 300 and finally gave up trying. I traded it in on a GK 700RB and have been as happy as can be ever since.

P.S. FWIW, I recall hearing Ron Wood with the Jeff Beck Group back around 1970 running thru Plush amps and he sounded absolutely deadly.

P.S.S. I love the sound of my old Kustom 1x15 combo. Too big and heavy to get much action (other than practice) but great for the old-school r&b/soul we play.

There have only been 2 I've hated; an SWR Studio 220 (sounded good but it was a PITA to dial in sounds) and a Trace Elliot (I forgot the model but it was all solid state and way too sterile). Among my favorites was an old Acoustic (don't remember the model but it had 2 channels and one had a gain) that sounded ungodly sweet through every cab I used it with. They were considered "cheap" amps not too long ago and I sold it to get the SWR. BIG mistake!

I don't really hate any amps, I dislike some fenders becuase they are very muddy, Atleast the one i played. I played some discount brand (Can't remember the name) at a shop and it was terrible, At any EQ adjustment it was a swamp. The highs were great, But the mid-low area was utter junk.

Sunn is Sunn.. Fender is crap.. Fender crapped trying to make a killing on the Sunn name and in the end.. ruined a great thing.. Just like they do to a lot of the time.. I hate it when there is a good little company that makes a great product gets bought out by a bigger company and then they have to "change everything".
