AMT Brick "Alembic Tube Preamp" pedal

Kinda struggled with how to answer for a minute...
I definitely like the eq better on the A-Bass than the Laney. The Laney has a few buttons
on it for eq stuff but it's limited there. And I like having the eq on the pedal as opposed
to using eq's in the HXFX.

The gain knob on the A-Bass has a way wider usable range than the Laney too, I always
had to keep the gain knob super low and never used the HOT channel (too high gain).
But the Laney still sounds really nice when set right.

I recorded a couple of clips while messing around with the AMT. It's just-
Bass > AMT A-Bass > Torpedo CAB (with a Shift Line bass cab IR) > Audio Interface.
No eq or compression added, just limiting to get the volume up a little.
Not trying to say it's the most killer bass sound ever, just something I threw together,
so go easy on me!

On this one I have the AMT in bypass.

And this one the AMT is on, gain around 2 o'clock.

The AMT has a lot more sounds in it than that, I'm lovin' the clean tuby sounds too!
It's also a super quiet preamp pedal, even with the gain up.

If these had an XLR out I'd be colored more curious and interested. Same with all of the other A-based preamps (which are really F-based preamps, at heart).

This preamp pedal is awfully small to be trying to cram an XLR in there!
I don't think an XLR out would be very useful in this type of pedal anyway.
Examples-
1- If you were going to run direct to FOH (or direct recording) you'd need a speaker
sim/IR, so it'd be better to have the XLR on the IR box or direct box instead.

2- If you wanted to run any post preamp effects an XLR out wouldn't help.

3- If you were running this into an amp's FX return (or input) you wouldn't
need an XLR out.

4- For me, I'd rather use a separate high quality direct box anyway.

Anyhow, this will be perfect to put in an HXFX loop were it can be moved
to anywhere in the signal chain and switched from the HXFX.
I was going to try and wait for the Atomic Bass Box for this purpose.
But I really like this box and it'll be less fiddly, so no regrets here!

Was just genuinely curious, what are all the other A-based (Alembic) preamps
besides the obvious Alembic rack mounts?

People should remember that if this is an actual alembic/fender circuit 0/10/0 is flat on the eq

You can definitely hear the mojo when he cranks it to overdrive territory. But it would have been good to have some on/off comparisons. I'm pretty sure it's just on all of the time. Then the mojo would have been more evident.

I'm very curious about the clean tube sound.

I doubt my opinion will be as helpful as some others around here. I've only tried a handful of Preamps. I'm very familiar with the Aggie tone hammer though. It's been my go to for several years and it sorta seems to be the standard to judge by.
I'm going for clean tube, right before breakup tone, but I'm sure I'll give everything a spin. I'll let everyone know what I think, but I won't be able to post sound clips. Even if I knew how, I've got my 2 little ones at home with me since school is out.

Once/if they become more readily available in the US, I'll definitely check one out. I currently have a used EBS Valvedrive on the way to see if that scratches my itch for a tube preamp pedal on the cheap(ish).

When I was first looking at it years ago, demos/sound clips were few and far between. But there are some pretty great sounding videos on Youtube of it these days. At least enough to convince me to give it a shot. Warm and vintagey.
