AMT Brick "Alembic Tube Preamp" pedal

The audio samples don't seem to work anymore.
Could you repost them?

I second that emotion. Sound clips, please!

Sorry for the lost A-Bass audio clips in my earlier post. I took them down because I found I was clipping the Torpedo C.A.B. input a little (had it on instrument instead of line level input), and was going to redo them and repost them, but I found I couldn't edit that post anymore (really? and hour or so and post can't be edited?).
So I slacked off and didn't redo them yet (but I will here soon).

But we've been working on recording some songs lately and here's rough mix of a song using
the A-Bass and the O-Bass (with kinda dead strings).
The bass was recorded through this pedalboard-

65Q1Fy7.jpg

Alembic Epic 4 > HXFX pedalboard.
The A-Bass and O-Bass are in the two separate loops (1 and 2) of the HX Effects board, recording three separate D.I. signals at once.
Track 1 = Dry D.I. Radial JDI Stereo, Left XLR out to interface.
Track 2 = Wet D.I. Radial JDI Stereo, Right XLR out to interface.
Track 3 = Wet (Right 1/4") Thru out of Radial JDI Stereo to Mesa M6 amp. head XLR D.I. out to interface.
There is a bass cab IR being used on the two Wet D.I.'s
I only used the GK cab for monitoring while tracking.

The bass sound was mixed for the song using whatever means I felt I needed to. So this is not meant to be a clip of just the tube preamps alone, but I used no other dirt or preamps in the song.
The A-Bass is always on (for the cleaner parts) and I'm kicking the the O-Bass in placed after the A-Bass in the signal chain for the dirtier parts.
Anyway I'll try to do some proper example sound clips of the AMT's pretty soon.

I uploaded a 24bit wav to Soundcloud but I'm pretty sure they convert it to MP3 for playback.
That's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it lol. :D

Wow that's a really nice rich bass sound and it really stands out in the mix.
This makes me really even more curious about the a-bass samples.

Thank you for posting this.

Great tone. Thanks for sharing. I'll look forward to the isolated clips. It sounds great. Nice grindy tone but not over the top.

I'm currently using both the A-Bass and the O-Bass pedals as well. (Full disclosure, I am an endorsing artist) I really like how they sound, but don't have any experience with the Alembic or Orange amps they are based off. I've been running them through their Bass Zealot power amp too which is a really nice amp. The fan is a little loud, but in a live situation I won't hear it.

The A-Bass has a really great naturally clean tone (but can get a little dirty too) and the O-Bass has that vintage tube thing happening. I'm having a slightly tougher time dialing in the tone I want from that one, but these are amazing little pedals that have massive tones in them.

Got mine in the mail from Russia 3-4 days ago, bought on the AMT store on reverb.

the 2 power supplies I have in my pedalboard (a donner DP3 and a voodoo 4x4) 12v output was not enough to drive the AMT-A - got a hum on one, didnt' even work on the other (to be fair the voodoo 4x4 seems to be dying). Big shout out to Alexander from AMT (who does tech support) who helped me out - i put a dedicated 12v 2700mh power supply on it and it works fine - so - if you are having problems check your power supply first!

i haven't done a big comparison yet - i hope to do a direct compare of this to my F1X, but just playing around it seems like it nails the alembic sound - scooped mids, big bass. Cranking up the gain barely got into fuzz territory - i'm not sure if changing the tube would make a difference, anyone try? one huge + for this pedal - it doesn't suck out low low end like so many other pedals.

connected2aj - does the Orange model have more of a mid presence? does it get dirtier?

Mine has the "Drive / Preamp" switch - anyone know if switching it to preamp just adds volume? is the output balanced so it can be used as a DI?

sounds great so far!

Thank you sir! I'll try to get some isolated clips up soon, hopefully.

I agree! By looking at the A-Bass and the O-Bass, one might think they would sound similar, but they are nothing alike Gain wise or EQ wise.
I like them both, the O-Bass can get some awesome overdrive tones.

Totally. Still trying to fine tune the O-Bass to get an Overdrive I can use with my band. Tons of useful sounds though.

I ordered an O-Bass on the same day, and having the same issue
Really sorry to hear that. I'm somewhat consoling myself that I don't intend on doing any more gigs until there is either a vaccine or until there is a sea change in public education / masking behavior. So, I'm willing to be patient for a while. And, the delay is understandable in the broad scheme of things. The world is literally a mess right now. Especially the US; though it pains me to say it.

Sorry to hear about the shipping problems from Reverb guys.
And sorry no solo clips of the A-Bass yet, but another work in progress song if you can stand another.
The bass signal chain on this one is-
ALEMBIC Epic 4 (still dead strings) >
AMT A-Bass tube preamp. (in the fx loop of HXFX, gain at 11 o'clock) >
Bass Cab Impulse Response = 05_Sunn_200s_by_Shift_Line (in HXFX) >
RADIAL JDI Stereo D.I. right XLR Out only >

Audio Interface.

Only one D.I. of the bass and finger style on this one so it might give a different idea of how the A-Bass can sound, at least in this mix/song.
All I did to the bass track in the D.A.W. was some light EQ (low cut) and really light Compression (around -2dbs).

Begin this week i bought a used two notes le bass pedal.
I am pretty impressed by the tube sound and grit but it doesn't have the same rich low end as my alembic f2b.

So I was very hopeful when I received my AMT A-bass yesterday.
Well in my experience the AMT has a nice tube sound color but it really fails major on the rich deep tube low end.
I tweaked a lot with the volume and gain and a bit with the eq.
I think the equalizer has a very limited range. I couldn't really boost the low end.
With my Sire V7 bass I felt like when I switched on the AMT low end was lost in some kind of compression.

So in my experience the AMT is a great pedal when you are looking for a cool tube distortion but compared to the original alembic it doesn't even come close to the extra dimension the alembic gives to your sound.

When I compare the AMT with the two notes le bass I would really recommend the le bass.
The sound is deeper and richer and the two notes has much more tonal options with the two channels and fusion options.

Maybe I will create sound clips later.....

Ummm...thanks for posting that but....

Honestly, I can't even hardly hear the bass in that mix. Whoever mixed that track LOVES guitar, but hates the bass. Or at least thinks bass should be completely buried.

My AMT O-Bass just arrived yesterday in the mail, so I'm assuming you will get yours soon. I'm really happy with it, and agree that it does have a vintage sound to it, and my friend thought it was a little "dark" sounding, but that was before I started adjusting the EQ. Right now, my only complaint is that the pedal is too small but I've sure many others would be happy with it's tiny size and huge sound.
Wish I would've purchased the A-Bass at the same time!

Anybody know if an 18VDC power supply can be used instead of a 12VDC?

I don't think 18V is a good idea.
