AMT Brick "Alembic Tube Preamp" pedal

I'm sorry I don't, as I have only used my pedal power supplies (Cioks DC-5 and Eventide powermax) to power mine.
But mine ran fine off a 300ma outlet on the DC-5, so you don't need a mega milliamp supply to run it as others have said in this thread, heck it says 300ma right on the side of the pedal.

I kinda abandoned this thread after reading people recommending other pedals over this one without even have tried the A-Bass, as I would never do that in a thread about a certain pedal.
And the thing where people were saying this pedal needed like way more powerful supplies than it actually needs, and the thing about the tube not glowing like other pedals they've seen (that actually have a red L.E.D. behind them).

Sorry to vent a little in response to your question, but I still really dig the A-bass and the O-Bass, they both work well for me.

I'm a big fan of the AMT, and I've tried a lot of similar pedals. I've had no issues with a standard 12v power supply and it sounds great, really fat and punchy. And you can't beat the size!

Yeah that thing ... No preamp tube glows without some sort of light source behind it (meaning that the tube itself does not glow). None, zero, zip, it does not happen. Power tubes, yes. Preamp tubes? In a pedal. That's a huge nope.

This one works with my Sushi Box but not the AMT.I have plenty of iso power supplies that'll handle anything but I'd like to have an adapter just for the heck of it.Sometimes I only want one or two pedals and not have to take a complete board.If the converter cable does the trick, great.

I love mine and I just unplugged from it.I hear from owners of the Alembic original that it does a very good job of copping the sound .It is a great clean unit but can deliver that point of breakup sound we all love.Sushi box makes their version that others seem to like and talking to a forum mate that owns both days they each do a great job with similar audio quality.If you dig the A- bass small footprint it's probably the biggest difference.It is a lot of tone in a tiny package.I liked it so much I bought the O- bass preamp too.It's based on the Orange bass tube amp and gets very nasty.AMT makes good stuff and we're easy to order from.From what I hear their C.S. is quite good,but fortunately I've not had need to contact them.
BTW, I have become a preamp pedal affectionato and own more than a few.The Tech 21 2112 is a great one.My latest is the Sushi Box Sunday Drive x a Sunn Model T preamp and the offerings from One Control are making me smile.My Darkglass Harmonic Booster is a super clean preamp and paired with the Vintage Microtubes or most any dirt box makes a nice combo.Next up for me I think will be a Sushi Box SBVT,I think you know what this is modeled after.

I have the AMT and the Sushibox version and I've had/have a few others with the same tone stack - and I have a Master Effects Thespian on the way (had a mid boost switch). Check out my other thread on preamp pedals

Obviously, if you run a hotter signal into the A, it will get dirtier. They both sound great, but in different ways as the A is cleaner, while the O can be dirtier sounding (it does clean up quite well) and will get heavier distortion. I have since replaced both pedals with the Sushibox FX Particle Accelerator and London Undergound pedals, as they run on 9 or 12VDC and sound just as good. Which of the two has the warmest/better clean sound? Thinking of using the A or the O before my Little Mark Vintage amp head (has a single 12AX7 tube preamp) in order to have a total of two 12AX7 tubes doing preamping for a more tubey yet clean tone. For reggae and funk. Good idea or not?

The A bass has the cleaner sound by far. The O bass gets dirtier quicker and is "darker" sounding. They both have a good amount of warmth. As much as I like these pedals, I changed over to the Sushi Box versions of these (Particle Accelerator and London Underground) due to them using 9VDC, and I actually like the normal size pedals better, plus Sushi Box is a member of TB and a regular poster.

I say the A bass is a cleaner ,warmer sound no doubt.I can get a less wicked sound from the O bass but gritty dirt is in its soul. IMO of course. Both are great pedals and so tiny!

Are the A-Bass and the Crimson Red (by One Control) comparable?

PROS - very good core tone, very usable range on the controls (gain doesn't get into raging hellbeast levels but does get pretty gnarly turned up full), really solid construction, tiny size, versatile (option to be used in a pedal chain or as a preamp).

CONS - used direct it has harsh top end overtones when not outputting through a cab sim (when used with a good cab sim it sounds amazing).

Would the A-Bass work when used as a pedal (not as a preamp), in front of an amp head (that already has a preamp), to fatten up the tone?

Some will work and others won't.I use a Cioks power supply and that does it for mine.I'm pretty sure other power bricks that do 12v will also.Try the converter thing Moon and others have suggested this.
