Amusing song requests

I remember years ago, we were playing a wedding reception. This poor little kid with Down's Syndrome got the courage to come up to the stage and ask "Can you guys play Sugar,Sugar---Honey,Honey by the Archies?....It's My favorite song!"
My guitar player broke right into it and didn't miss one word in the whole thing.

thats quite the kind gesture.

My favorite song request moment as of late, happened while playing at a well known local blues club in my hometown, with my band, where our two guitarists got done with a scorching Freddie King tribute, and some woman requested " Surfin' U.S.A." by the Beach Boys! It took all of us back for a second, wondering how ignorant or clueless this woman really was. I stepped in real quick and politely told her that while the Beach Boys were a great vocal group they weren't blues artists and the song wasn't right for the venue, but thanks for asking anyway. It would've been easy to be a smart ass about it, but there was no point in being rude to the woman. The band is still laughing about it.

I was with a metal band a few years ago and we did one set of Megadeth covers. This really high hippy girl comes up to the stage in the middle of the set and asks me if she can play tamborine. I told her I don't think there is any tamborine in Megadeth but thats not my depatment, thats percussion and I directed her to our drummer. She then rummied up to our drummer. He turned her away and then after the set told me he was going to get me back:eek: for sending that clueless nutcase to bother him.

I remember hearing from a friend about when his band was playing a wedding reception and someone asked for "Another One Bites the Dust".....

We're a jazz trio (Piano, Bass, Drums) with an occasional sax player who sang jazz standards. The venue is an exclusive supper club outside of L.A. and advertises jazz. Lady hollers out, "Do Bad Bad LeRoy Brown" over and over again. On break, before the requisit trip to the parking lot for "a cigarette", I tell her ma'am, we paly jazz here. She says, "Oh!...how about "Don't Mess Around with Jim?"

And they wonder why I smoke.

Years ago I was playing in a C&W band and a guy comes up to my side of the stage and motions like he wants to ask me something. Because of the stage volume, I bend down and turn my ear towards him to listen. I hear him say "Ya gotta take a p*ss?"

Being somewhat confused why a random stranger would be concerned about my bodily functional needs at the moment, and wondering if I heard him correctly, I again turn my ear toward him and hear "Ya gotta take a p*ss????"

Again, I wonder to myself why this guy is concerned about my bladder content and functioning ...and wonder if he's just taking a survey or just being an obnoxious drunk.

So, I ask him to repeat himself one more time, though now I'm looking toward him to actually read his lips as he asks me "Ya'll take requests???" with a heavy southern drawl.

Because it was now terribly difficult to contain my laughter over the situation, I nodded my head and pointed toward the singer ....before busting out in hysterical laughter as the rest of the band wondered what was going on. :D
