Seriousness, I doubt it makes an acoustic difference, but more of a structural difference, ease of getting on and off. I have dropped more tiny balls of putty on the floor than I ever did with the Schertler, plus I like to move and remove the EAP constantly depending on gig and over time the putty gets dirty and loses tack, so perhaps it doesn't hurt to have a surplus.
