An exteded range bass?

I googled "extended range bass" and came across something rather interesting.....

Is this possible at all? I mean i see how it can be, but on the frets higher then the 24th is it possible?

A bass played in the upper registers doesn't sound like a guitar. And you shouldn't limit your musicianship because another instrument can cover that range. Otherwise, you should throw every guitar in the world into the trash, because its full range is covered by most of the keyboards out there.

Yes, it's possible to have extra frets if you'd like. Generally this is reserved to a few luthiers who can do this well. Typically beyond ~28 frets and you'll start to have to move your neck pickup or ditch it all together.

Up that high, the frets get fairly close together and slap is very different. I have a 26 fret 6 string bass and my thumb doesn't like slapping it. I've played a few basses with 26 and 28 and I feel that the notes start sounding a little choked.

Definitely not bashing the idea, but if you're willing to spend the effort/$$ on the extra frets, you could just as easily have more strings.

It isn't needed. At least not for you.

Notes exist everywhere on the string, they don't just randomly stop where ever the fretboard ends.
