Amen.

The commercial aspect appears to be the common malady. But, this does present a bit of a dilemma to the artist as professional. And, furthermore, there is a feedback loop which deposits the consequences on the art form.

Rap, for the most part IMO just sucks - it promotes things that I want to stay far away from.

I mean, a while back me and my friend were talking about rap, and he was saying he could not see himself not listining to it, and it was good...as long as you don't do anything it says. He honestly said that to me, and it just makes no sense to me.

Anyways, there are a few bits of Rap that I listen to, but its all Christian rap, as well they're actually promoting good things and not sex and killing each other.

The joys of not usually listining to secular music...but then again, Fall Out Boy has made its way into my collection, as well as a few other bands...

Tons of good rap artist and groups have been mentioned. Not all rap promotes negative things. Listen to the Roots, The Streets, Common, Kanye West, NWA (they were negative yes, but they were speaking the truth), Run DMC, Common... The list goes on forever. You shouldn't judge whats popular. :rollno:

The only current rapper I like is Eminem. Just simply because he finds other things to talk about and is a fricken lyrical mastermind. Kanye West I also enjoy.



And what the hell is up with music having to promote good things??? I mean, sure rainbows and lolipops are great, but really. You can't be happy all the time. I'm tired of people (No offense to those who are, but Christians inperticular) are always complaining that when music doesn't promote being happy and being with god its automatically damned to hell. I find it really sickening.



(P.S. I am a born Christian although I do not follow it. I repect other peoples faiths, I just don't like religion. SO don't hate on me for writing this.)

MY LORD! They opened for 311, and I got to see that concert for free. I didn't know they were opening, or I would have been there. We should up late... I was so pissed when I found later that I MISSED THE ROOTS!! Especially since by the end of the 311 concert, I was begging my friends for us to leave early, they got old fast.

Well, it's not "Jump!", that's for sure.

One thing that some enlightened folks posess is the ability to understand that there are some things they don't know. That there are things they haven't been exposed to and that what they have been exposed to might not represent a genre in total.

They're typically not as vocal as the other folks.

Tossing out an entire genre based on the commodity version of the product is obviously well within one's rights. It's not very bright IMO, no offense intended. In this case if you're basing your dislike on the self-perpetuating type stuff on MTV, yes, that's Rap's fault, not yours.

Pink Floyd and David Cassidy are both considered Rock artists.

Anyone who's still of the impression that Rap contains no actual musicians is living in MTV land. The ignorance factor seems to be pretty high... in reality, with bands like the Roots out there, who can play their ass off, how can someone seriously contend that the whole thing is not musical?

This smacks of the usual self-fulfilling thing, focus on the stuff you hate, ignore or pretend the rest doesn't exist... as is your right of course.

I'm a self proclaimed rap hater. However, I'm MUCH more likely to give rap "music" backed by actual instruments, such as "Roots" a listen, rather than some jerk braggin how big his package is backed by samples and other "non instruments".
