And this is why I'm tantrum quitting TalkBass...

So there are some users here who seem to think that their sole purpose in life is to hate people who play with a pick. I play with both fingers and a pick because I'm new to bass and I can't get much speed without a pick yet.

Now before anyone says, "YOU'RE NOT A REAL BASSIST, YOU PLAY WITH A PICK" I'd like to point out that I prefer the sound of fingers, but, as stated, I can't finger pick fast enough.

I really don't care if I start an argument, because everyone hates me already (because I use a pick)... but I'd just like to make it aware that even though the forum rules say that you need to respect your fellow TBers, extremely rude pick vs. fingers debates still happen. A lot. And these guys don't get banned...

Anyway, you can hate me if you feel like it. No skin off my butt...

What’s with the drama - or did you leave TB already?

Where else are we going to get gems of information from like this now?

"Alright, so I am quite the grammar Nazi, I hate misspellings, misused apostrophes, improper word forms and such, and I would just like to let you guys know that the plural (more than one) form of the word bass is basses. Not bass', not not bass's, not basss; basses.

Forgive my trolling, but this is something that greatly irks me."

Don't leave us!!!!

Harsh................(hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!)

I love you guys.

I'm a fingers guy myself but, some styles need a pick and I say whatever floats your boat and sounds the best to you. If anyone else doesn't like it they can buzz off. Also Chris Squire used a pick and it sounded goooood.

I started out using a pick but not a plastic one. I used a ukelele thick felt pick. Took an emery board and filed it down to give it flex. BUT my guitar playing snobs said I wasn't a "real" bass player.

So I learned to use one finger, my Jamerson hook. Now I get "your not real because you don't use 2 fingers" (or more).

Who cares? I wish I could use a pick again but don't want to put the time into it.

I hope the OP doesn't leave. When I first started posting in internet forums, I got really offended by the outlandish nature of people. Then I realized that such people would never raise such offensive claims IN PUBLIC. The anonymity of the internet allows for extremely un-natural behavior.

Therefore, my advice to the OP is to stay, keep your own opinions and don't let others bring you down. There is a lot of good stuff in this forum (and others regardless of topic) and if you just somehow 'laugh' at people (in your head) who get emotionally involved in topics, things will work out for you.

It took me about 3 years to get that attitude with forums, but I am much happier now.

As for pick players, I don't think Mike Rutherford cared when people criticized him for using a pick 85% of the time. He had a particular sound in mind. He liked the sound he got with a pick. So he played WHAT HE LIKED.

That's my two cents.
