Andrew Gouche w/ Chaka Khan

Andrew Gouche With Chaka Khan In Amsterdam Holland - YouTube

I just watched this Chaka Khan clip, and I loved every bit of Andrew Gouche's playing. He and I are pretty much the same age, and in terms of funk/r&b, I am certain that we had the same heroes. Mr. Gouche just worked a lot harder at bass and is infinitely more talented than I am. Frankly, he plays the exact same way I aspire to play. I don't do as many fills as he does simply because I am not as a good a player as he its.

BTW, is Andrew Gouche a pretty big guy? That MTD 635 really looks little on him:)

This is an awesome thread and folks are talking bass. I happen to be from the camp that alot of comments are being made by a lot of cats who are not on Andre's level. We're just spectators. If I ever get a chance to overplay I'm taking it because I have to sit back on so many boring azz gigs while others get off. I want my shot to shine too. Nothing wrong IMO with flexing a bit. Andre I salute you brother. Keep up the good work. I haven't even checked out the vids yet. Hey Andre tell us about that Tecamp cab you played through at NAMM. The one Sekou designed.

That might just be the smokinest (is that a word/) band that I have ever seen with Chaka. Some really cool gospel riffs in there. I'm not religious but that stuff could almost make me a believer :)
Andre seems to be playing with a very low action, sounds good on some stuff and im sure it's a dream to play but I wonder if his bass wouldn't sound less choked if he raised it a bit.

ZZzzzzzzZzzzzzzzzzz...........You cats on here talking the most trash about MY playing, how come the only vids I can find of YOU, are of you sitting in your bedroom playing some tired recycled funk licks, or coming onstage at someone else's show? Show me some of YOUR gigs so I can critique YOU!! The internet is such a one way street......
That's funny, tell it like it is, Andrew. Good for you for not turning the other cheek. Call it righteous indignation.

Ok.... When you have the resume that he has I would say he has the right to "overplay" I wish there was an "ask Gouche" forum here so those of us who like his "over playing" could hit him up for tip. Btw I bet some and I mean some people on the overplaying bandwagon say that about most bass players who started out or play Gospel Music in the urban areas. Thats just how we/they get down or at least aspire to. Its all a matter of preference. Get over it.
