Just thrown GM's "Still got the Blues" on the CD player. Couldn't help thinking what a good player Andy Pyle is. He's right on the money and generates a great pulse with Graham Walker (drums). I don't know anything at all about the guy but I admire his playing. There's nothing fancy or flashy, just great electric blues / rock rhythm. John
He's been around awhile......I still have my Blodwig Pig albums from the late 60's with Andy on them. I've dug his playing since I was a kid
I have Gary Moore's DVD (Ballads and blues) and Andy's playing (well, Garry's too) is amazing. Great tone, great lines without too many flashy fills. He's actually what I (as a bassist) always wanted to be. Is that a Fender Precision 62'?
Glad to see that I am not alone. Andy has got the stuff, and very few people have ever heard of him. See My Way was one of the 'loudest' bass lines ever recorded. And his work on the Modern Alchemist is superb. I learned something here, which Savoy Brown incarnation or recording was he associated with? Love that band! Saw them once headlining with Fleetwood Mac+Bob Welch and John Baldry opening for them. What a show! Thanks for the tip on the Gary Moore, I'm gonna go buy that!
He was a member of the Kinks during the mid-70's, between John Dalton and Jim Rodford (around about the time of "Sleepwalker", I think- not one of my favourite Kinks records, admittedly, but good player all the same )
Found the Gary Moore recording on FYE. Then I noticed a Peter Green tribute CD from Gary with Andy on it, Blues for Greenie, so I bought that too. And then finally, I got sent to the Wishbone Ash website where there was a good bio on Andy. I'll post the link later when I have a chance to look for it.
looked on Forums: Bassists : Pete Rees and got a blank .. so … Anyone know of another bassist with Gary Moore: Pete Rees? I would like to know usual info: gear: basses strings amps … Thanks in advance!
Andy also played on Gary Moore's "Live At The Marquee" album. Recorded in 1980 with Tommy Aldridge on drums, Don Airey on keys and Kenny Driscoll on vocals.
