annoying the neighbours

We play at my house where there is less room because when we played at my guitar player's house the neighbors bitched. In fact we have gone under the name "pissing off the neighbors" or just "Bad Neighbors".

Final straw came when his neighbors called the cops on us at 2 PM on a Sunday afternoon. The cop said we really weren't too loud, but he got a call and had to follow up. We moved here the next day.

My son used to practise his drums at home when he first started, though he was OK since he'd practised at school a whole year before he got his own kit.
One day a neighbour called out the cops for the noise because she was a nurse who did night shifts sometimes (which turned out later to be a lie). We said we'd no idea as no-one had said anything. The cop said that the nurse said she asked us loads of times to keep it down, but we ignored her. That was also a lie & we said so, so the cop said that the next time she called them out they'd charge her with wasting police time. We didn't hear a peep from the neighbour after that.

I've been involved with a few different cases over the years... probably the craziest was playing at a friends place out in the country on a Saturday afternoon. Actually, we didn't annoy the neighbors at all. We didn't realize anything until one of them comes up to the door and informs us that an entire herd of cattle, who were peacefully grazing on the opposite side of the fence next to our building, had decided that our music was just a bit distasteful... and proceeded to find a way to hide from it.

Wouldn't have been so bad, except they decided to completely take out a fence and run quite a ways away.

I actually felt kind of bad about it for awhile, but my friend who lives there just said "Na, don't worry about it, they get all the time; at least I didn't have to chase them out of our own yard for a change."
