annoying the neighbours

so lastnight i took my small bass amp upstairs too have a jam with my 12 year old bro,my mum sat next too the amps with her friend chatting so you can tell it wasnt loud attal, then my neighbours come round complaining about the noise.tonight their outside working on a dirtbike revving it and making far more noise than i did lastnight.im tempted too invite my whole band round too practice in the living room show them what loud is:spit:

Don't let things escalate. It can only get worse.

Well, you certainly have some laws regulating "noise", right?

They can't do anything about it as long as you're playing by the rules. But some dudes are just a pain in the ass, reciprocity, *** is that?

i bought a house right next to a guy who's dog barked ALL night long every night. & then on saturday afternoons he would come out & complain that we were too loud playing basket ball or even talking while grilling! so i told him i might think about being quite if he shuts that f'n dog up. he moved about a month later.

Let me tell you about my old neighbors.

My wife wrote it. I kept saying one day I would look back on it and laugh... that day still hasn't come.

wow nice neighbours, people round here tend too be very up themselves and posh and complainers and letter writers..too many ands.but i could be a much worse neighbour than i am if we didnt rent id get my heavy handed drummer and guitard who has no volume nob control and have a gig/party in the living room

They did move out and were gone as quickly as they arrived. The family that moved in afterward were great. The new people were telling us that the parents of the naked house mother was paying their rent and when she came and saw the conditions they were living in she stopped paying for it. We've since moved but that's some creepy stuff I'll never forget.

I live on 5 acres in the country and had one neighbor who was complaining about the drums and the bass so I called my other neighbors who I have known for the 14 years that I have lived there and they said that they could hear it when they were outside or if the windows were open and it was no problem,I even had one neighbor that I have only talked to maybe 3 times in 14 years ask me if I was the one with the band (and I thought oh crap hear we go) but he wanted my guitarist to turn up.
Anyway they kept complaining that once a week from 11am to 3pm was too much and it was like chinese water touture when they were out in there garden or on thier back porch so I move the band from the shop to the garage and they complained even more so I called the sheriff out to take a decible reading,so he instructed us to open the garage door and let it rip so we did and the decible reading was only 65 from about 80 feet away, then he went down to the property line between said neighbor and the chicken that was clucking next to the sheriff was louder than us.
Because we are outside the city limits you can be 75 decibles from something like 8am to 10pm and nothing above 65 from 10pm to 8am.
So given that info we could practice with the door open all night if we wanted to,needless to say me calling the cops and being proactive really pissed off the neighbor because he lost the leagal leverage that he thought he had and he even went as far to say that we werent as loud when the cop was taking the reading (they were working the garden watching all of this) we also had to loan the cop 2 9 volts and keep playing zz top for him while he fiqured out how to use the DB meter.
I do try to keep it down as to be a good neighbor but its my life and my property and I wont be told where and when to pratice.
Sorry its so long but that is the short version.

"The three in the back yard last night were kind enough to tell my husband that he must be gay for taking pictures of his truck and planned on having sex with it, and that if he parked it in their yard, (which was OUR yard incidentally) it became theirs" :p:smug: this made me laugh. you'll eventually laugh about it one day for real, i hope..

back on topic- im always hosting rehearsals and open jams in my basement, and have a full rig and stereo system to jam along too at full volume in my bedroom, upstairs. i play fairly loud for a fair amount of time just about every day. sometimes with windows open, without realising.

i've never once had a complaint. ever.

but i was once told by a girlfriend, that a friend of hers (who lives a block away) always hears me playing loud and clear. my whole block probably hates me..

Wow! That's plenty to make all one's own problems seem much lighter!

Actually, our drummer's neighbors are very similar, but a family of four, and not nearly as bad, though not for lack of trying.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As to the OP: sound travels much easier to the lower apartment without soundproofing in the floor, which most houses turned apartment buildings don't (I'm assuming that's probably the case). Even normal walking can be very annoying to those living downstairs, though your neighbors seem to be over-complaining.

nah i live in a 3 storey house but we share a common wall, the neighbours are bellends tho

This visual made me laugh out loud. I can just see the cop fiddling with the batteries and yelling to you guys, "Could you give me 'La Grange' one more time?"

That and turning the db meter on the chicken... priceless.
