Another "first time seeing that" on a customer's bass

Case in point:

My Washburn project build 8 stringer - I wanted DR Black Beauties on it - the octaves are from the guitar set and don't quite reach, had to splice them.... Works perfectly even if it looks shady...

Ive heard tales of old blues guys in the delta resorting to bailing wire back in the day.
If you need strings....and you got no money ...you do what you gotta do!

I've been repairing/restoring basses for a few years now. Word has gotten out at work and people routinely bring me stuff to work on for fun. Here's an old Kimberly that my coworker's grandfather pulled out of a dumpster back in the 90's. Whoever owned this bass was seriously desperate not to replace the G string. Also.... I'm pretty sure that the E & A strings are actually piano strings.

I can completely understand about the strings, he misunderstood “strings sound better broken in” Obviously he missed the “IN” part of the equation

Those Mojo brand bailing wire strings now cost more that TI.

when he was a kid Bakithi used to tie broken strings back together because a new set would've been like a months salary. he's done ok for himself.
