I thought about it... and I don't really like the Chili Peppers that much. Flea is a great bassist but... their early stuff is too stupid, musically and lyrically especially. Their later stuff is too mellow.

I might be alone on this, but One Hot Minute is probably my favorite Chili album. That said, I think John is a helluva better guitarist than Hillel. To prove it, John does Hillel better than Hillel... see mothers milk. He's doing Hillel's style better than him. Then he does his own thing, which sounds better than Hillel's stuff. I liked them with Navarro because he didn't try to be either of the guitarists and forced the band musically to try something new, which is what they needed because they were sounding stale.

I love every single one of the chili peppers album, except One Hot Minute which sounds more like a side project than anything.
I disagree with the point of them not jamming, Californication (to me) sounds like a big jam, where four talented musicians came together to play and this beautiful creation was born.

So Flea doesn't play a million notes a second anymore but to quote a great bassit: "a good musician can, with one note, imply a billion more". Who's said that? my man Flea.

The Chili's are my favourite band, and the fact that they are constantly changing makes me love them even more. Just because they dont play the "thrash-funk" as much anymore, doesnt mean they don't feel the music they're making now...

but i'm rambling....so.....

my closing remark will be: I think Flea has exchanged speed/flash for feel/soul, and I like it

I really like two `peppers albums - B,S,S&M because it sounded so fresh, raw and everything on it seemed in place. And Californication, because of a great sound it has, and cute, pretty melodies that I like very much.
I think that songs on the By The Way are really good, too, but Anthony`s voice sounds really unnatural and digitally processed - I just can`t listen to it.

howdeeeee big girls...

my vote is Moms Milk... best album by rhcp

btw anyone else think anthony kedis (sp?) smokes sausage?

i dont know any other "rock/funk whatnot" singer who is as tone deaf as anthony!

flea is ok these days... but whats up with the pick????

moms milk moms milk moms milk moms milk

When Californication cames aut i was quite dissapointed by the bass lines, and the songs(to many ballads, to slown, no jams) But I also found awesome songs on that record(around The World, RIght on time). But when i first heard By the way.... WHAT HAPPEND TO THEM???!!

True the bass on the recent albums is less obvious, less in your face, less OVER PLAYED!!!

But, IMO, Flea's playing on 'by the way' is every bit as good as his previous albums. Some of the lines in calif.. & by the way are very very nice lines. Simple, but very effective and the bare minimum of what is needed for the song, as opposed to playing far more than is necessary as per many ealier albums. IMO Flea us now starting to feel the spaces, rather than play the notes.

Re: Hillell Slovak? I agree He was an awesome guitarist - very very original. But so is Frusciante. The guitar solos on BSSM, and calif and the g parts on by the way) are some the best solos/parts ever played in my opinion... go back and listen to it again I swear. It's simple, but well thought out and very musical.

I think rhcp are gone mad... their last album sucks.. I found it too weak and many songs to me are just... obvious! They seem to me songs that everyone could write... pretty supid songs. On californication they were very good instead... lots of ballads but if you listen to the second half of the cd they did some very cool songs.. nice basslines and nice ideas.
Anyway I think bloodsugarsexmagik is their best album and has the nicest basslines
