Another Fun Poll!!!!

Index and and middle finger only. Sometimes thumb and sometimes pick(rarely)

Are you a root note king? (Be honest now!)

Depends on what the song calls for.

Have you ever printed out a Jaco tab or tried to play a Jaco song by ear and felt like a complete jackass when you couldn't play it worth a lick?

Never tried to learn any Jaco. Love his playing, but never tried to imitate.

Can you slap?

Yes, but I prefer not to.

Has anyone ever thought you played guitar when you know full well you play the damn bass, even though they have seen you play?

Once, an old girlfriend couldn't understand why I didn't sound like a 6 string.

Do you ever look through BASS PLAYER magazine and wonder to yourself. "who the hell are all these people in this magazine?!?" (other than the cover story)

There have been times.

Phil Lesh, bassist or frustated guitarist?

Good bassist in a band I prefer not to listen to.

you have played "Tom Sawyer" in front of someone and really impressed them because you were playing a Rush song, but you knew deep down, thats as easy as a Rush song gets (expcet the 7/4 bit in the middle, but i got that nailed.)

Havn't played Tom Sawyer in years.

Do you use a pick or your fingers(how many?)or both?

<b>3 fingers, index, middle and ring</b>

Are you a root note king? (Be honest now!)

<b>no, unless song dictates it. After all, I don't play Lead Bass.</b>

Have you ever printed out a Jaco tab or tried to play a Jaco song by ear and felt like a complete jackass when you couldn't play it worth a lick?

<b>I actually tried Portrait of Tracy (or whatever it's called) in H.S. for a talent show audition and thought I did a respectable job. (i think the TAB was in BP Mag one month) </b>

Can you slap?

<b>enough to fake my way.</b>

Has anyone ever thought you played guitar when you know full well you play the damn bass, even though they have seen you play?

<b>no</b>

Do you ever look through BASS PLAYER magazine and wonder to yourself. "who the hell are all these people in this magazine?!?" (other than the cover story)

<b>yup. But more like, "Why the hell are all these people in the magazine?!?"</b>

Phil Lesh, bassist or frustated guitarist?

<b>don't know, don't care</b>

you have played "Tom Sawyer" in front of someone and really impressed them because you were playing a Rush song, but you knew deep down, thats as easy as a Rush song gets (expcet the 7/4 bit in the middle, but i got that nailed.)

<b>Who hasn't? what's more fun is the Circumstances riff! </b>

1) Right hand? Pick, thumb, index, middle and ring.

2) Root note king? Decidedly not.

3) Jaco tabs? I think I've done okay on some Jaco stuff. Donna Lee and Chromatic Fantasy still have me stumped.

4) Slap? Yes, and I admit I like to do it.

5) Bass-ignorant listeners? Constantly.

6) Bass Player featured artists? I'm familiar with chops-heavy players in most genres. I'm clueless as to the alleged musicians from punk/alterative/rap-metal bands.

7) Phil Lesh? Frustrated guitarist.

8) "Tom Sawyer" and Rush? I went through a Rush phase and never heard, let alone learned, "Tom Sawyer."

Do you use a pick or your fingers(how many?)or both?

3, 2 or 1, depending on the groove.

Are you a root note king? (Be honest now!)

Nah, I like to spice it up. I'm a little too triadic sometimes, though.

Have you ever printed out a Jaco tab or tried to play a Jaco song by ear and felt like a complete jackass when you couldn't play it worth a lick?

I can play a section of Continuum pretty well, so no.

Can you slap?

I've been compared to Louis Johnson.:D:D:D

Has anyone ever thought you played guitar when you know full well you play the damn bass, even though they have seen you play?

Yes I know full well I play the bass. I know what I play. I don't care what people think as long as they enjoy the music and don't throw beer bottles at me.

Do you ever look through BASS PLAYER magazine and wonder to yourself. "who the hell are all these people in this magazine?!?" (other than the cover story)

No. I say to myself "Hm, good to see some unknown people getting some recognition. Maybe they'll feature me some day (Gotta work on my craft some more)

Phil Lesh, bassist or frustated guitarist?

Very creative bassist.

you have played "Tom Sawyer" in front of someone and really impressed them because you were playing a Rush song, but you knew deep down, thats as easy as a Rush song gets (expcet the 7/4 bit in the middle, but i got that nailed.)

Nah, but I've played "Roll the Bones, which is just as easy. Again, as long as the beer bottles ain't hittin' my noggin, I don't care.

Will C.

Do you use a pick or your fingers(how many?)or both?
I am adept at both techniques, but I prefer fingers.

Are you a root note king? (Be honest now!)/
I try to make the coolest bassline possible... sometimes that involves playing simple... On my favorite song my old band did I played a simple 4 to a bar line like a DIO or Scorpions song during the verse. Do you know what... It was the SHIZNIT.

Have you ever printed out a Jaco tab or tried to play a Jaco song by ear and felt like a complete jackass when you couldn't play it worth a lick?
No...when I have trouble working on something, I'm try not to get discouraged and keep on pluggin.

Can you slap?
I prefer the slap and tickle technique.

Has anyone ever thought you played guitar when you know full well you play the damn bass, even though they have seen you play?
I just tell the simpletons I play guitar. Simpler that way.

Do you ever look through BASS PLAYER magazine and wonder to yourself. "who the hell are all these people in this magazine?!?" (other than the cover story)
Nah, i just look at the pictures of the pretty basses. :D

Phil Lesh, bassist or frustated guitarist?
I'm not a deadhead but Phil Lesh is OK in my book.

you have played "Tom Sawyer" in front of someone and really impressed them because you were playing a Rush song, but you knew deep down, thats as easy as a Rush song gets (expcet the 7/4 bit in the middle, but i got that nailed.) Try an Electo Harmonix bass micro synth. It makes a reasonable facsimile of the intro synth sound.

Both but mostly 2 fingers + thumb.

Are you a root note king? (Be honest now!)

If I need to be!

Have you ever printed out a Jaco tab or tried to play a Jaco song by ear and felt like a complete jackass when you couldn't play it worth a lick?

I doubt my eyes could cope with tab for any of his tunes! As for feeling like a pillock attempting to play along with 'Word of Mouth' - oh yes

Can you slap?

Barely - mostly only in my own company

Has anyone ever thought you played guitar when you know full well you play the damn bass, even though they have seen you play?

Mostly my workmates, poor SClub7 and Steps-loving heathen.

In the UK we used to have a Mag called Bassist until it folded. Guitarist took over the Bass content and did a good job but I got bored with letters pages full of snotty guitarists whinging about bass.

Phil Lesh, bassist or frustated guitarist?

Sorry, never heard him play.

No, but when I nailed 'I'm the one' by The Descendents after about 3 listens my bandmates were impressed - it's one of their easier tunes to work out.
