Another Markbass Thread - LMII as a pre?

I made the fatal mistake of buying 2 4-Ohm cabs before buying my LMII, so I'm thinking about using the LMII as a pre before a power amp to run both cabs.

I'm under the impression that the power section of the LMII is pretty transparent - is anyone else doing this, and have you noticed a difference in tone?

Thanks in advance.

Lot's of posts on this. I don't remember all the details, but the answer is basically no. There is no post EQ send on the LMII that is strong enough to optimally drive a power amp.

If he doesn't show up on your thread, PM TBer Vic. He's 'gone to school' on this issue and will give you the full scoop.

Do a search on here about it, but I don't believe you cannot do it. The line out is pre-eq.

I thought the line out was post-EQ?...

"The Little Mark II's balanced XLR output is factory preset to POST-EQ, but can be switched to PRE-EQ by any authorized Markbass service technician."

Yep, it's post-EQ... I may have to get that changed.

I just picked up am LMII today. I haven't looked yet but I believe that you just have to move a jumper plug inside to change the DI to pre. If you look at the block diagram in the manual it shows jumpers on the chart.

So far the LMII seems like a nice little head. I do wish it had a mute function though.

FWIW, you get can something like this that will allow you to drive another power amp if you don't use the dummy load part

it is inserted between the head and cab and gives you variable line out as well as a headphone line out.

or you could built this one (Load Line)

Or you can build a box yourself to go between your head and cab that allows you to steal a signal and drive another power amp. Pretty cheap and easy to do.

You can also look at devices such as the Countryman DI which you can insert between your head and cab though I don't think the DI level on that unit is adjustable, so it may not be the proper level to drive a power amp... just some suggestions to look into.
