That makes sense, since the yoke is 'fixed size'. The Ultimate accepts any size and style headstock.

I'll take the hercules metal leg attachments over the ultimate's plastic any day. I've held both in my hands and IMHO the herc is built way more durable.

This is true. You'll never have a problem with a fiver, but sixers don't fit well. The Ultimate's simpler "V" design definitely wins on this one.

Well, that's what usually happens when people get a good look at a new Skjold... especially with the most recent batches, and the one this thread is about is NO EXCEPTION!!!! :D

Ok.. I had Pete ship it to me at work so there would be someone there to sign for it. The truck got there at 10....
Boxes and peanuts were flying!:help:
The case is a nice gator... but man it felt so light..I was wondering if maybe Pete forgot to put the bass in it.
So, I unzipped it and opened it up....:eek: :eek: :eek:

HOLY $H!#...The pix don't even come close to the sight of the real thing..its freeking beautiful!
Now remember that I'm at work... I picked it up out of the case, the neck feels fabulous...but the thing is almost weightless!:smug:

Then I plucked the G.... and the whole damn guitar just sang to me...... This axe is hella resonant!

Needless to say the day went VERY slowly, and I must admit that I had to keep "peeking".........:p

I've been noodling around on it for hours, and I have to tell you that something stinks here cuz this baby is the ****!!

I'll be taking it to the studio tomorrow so Saturday I'll have more to say about how it sounds at a higher volume....

I'm a happy man! :D :D :D

Been there:hyper: It's hard to concentrate on your work when a new baby is waiting there for you to take her in your loving hands, plug her and strike her neck until she moans and growls :D :D :D

Ok, went to the studio yesterday and plugged this monster in...OMFG! It kills! I let the guitard give it a try, and after an hour had to tell him "Hey, is it my turn now?"
There are so many killer tones that you can dial in that it'll take even longer to record anything, because now I have TOO MANY choices!
Pete is a fine man to deal with, he really communicates with you to make sure that you get what you ask for tonally.
Would I buy another?
Oh, h&ll yes! But, I don't know if I'll ever NEED another.....
Wait, everyone needs a backup! (and a fretless)

This bass is so great that I am going to be able to get rid of all my other ones, except the 12 string.......
Its lighter, plays better, and sounds better than anything else I have.

They say word of mouth is the best advertising...then I guess I'm a friggin 1000 ft wide billboard.

I love that top. I also know exactly what he's talking about tone-wise, as I have something fairly similar (woods, preamp, but not a single-cut) from the same batch, and yeah, the buttery options are dizzying.

Heh, I pretty much feel that way about every one of the basses in this batch of Pete's. It really killed me to have to give Vic's two Skjolds back to him, and I have been pondering a whaleback for a while, and just fell in love with the looks of Joe's bass. :)
