Hello all my name is Tom i'm 23 years old and I recently decided to pick up a bass.Two of my dads favorite bands are Rush and Black Sabbath so growing up listening to Geddy and Geezer really made me fall in love with bass.Then when I was twelve I first heard Iron Maiden and I really wanted to play bad.Well eleven years later I finally got my bass and I cant wait to learn everything I can and become the best I can.I decided to join Talk Bass as another way to get helpful tips and advice.I bought my bass a little over a week ago.I went with the Ibanez gsr190 and a Fender rumble 15.Since I got my bass I have been reading Study Bass.com as well as Bass guitar for dummies.I have been practicing as much as I possibly can I have been practicing a few chromatic scales and major and minor scales and been trying to learn all the notes along the neck in the process of everything.As I said earlier I'm here hoping to get as much information as I can to help with the learning process. Any and all info welcome and thank you in advance.

Welcome! I'd like to add Rocksmith 2014 as a fun tangent to your learning. It is not an alternative, but it is an excellent supplement and learning requires change and tangent. Enjoy!

I do own it but I'm not a huge fan,there is a few things I don't really like.For instance I wish it said the name of the strings somewhere on the screen instead of just colors.Being a beginner its really annoying trying to learn the colors when its the names that are the most important thing to remember.I also wish on the fretboard it said the names of the notes as well as fret number so It could help you learn both.Another thing is being a beginner I want to develop good habits and I find playing rocksmith just makes me unlearn everything I'm trying to learn at this point. I start to loose my rhythm and play to fast or slow and I noticed you really don't have to play the note well for the game to register.So when I stop playing the game I noticed that every time I try to play a note I get a lot of string buzz and have to get used to playing without the game again.So I will stick to my scales and metronome for now but thanks for the reply.
