?You can find info on these if you type in a search on them. There is a club that has useful info as well.(stopped taking #'s and is now more used for information and stories on them. You can assign your own # as long its not used.)
LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass strings are 30-40 bucks on the internet. GuitarCenter will charge you 50 if they have them in stock. Flats sound great on that bass. It will minimize the time until you need a refret and you can get the action a little lower. LaBella strings sound better the longer you have them on your instrument. You won't need to change them for a long time. See what you think though. It really is a player preference. An y questions about the T-40, don't hesitate to contact me.
The best way to date it is to call Peavey. They use some strange code for all of their USA basses, I had them date my Patriot Bass and my T-40. Flats will work fine for Prog. Steve Harris used flats with Iron Maiden early on, I'm told, so as long as you have a decent head or EQ it shouldn't be a problem. If you are hesitant, stick with rounds. I typically set up each bass for a different style. I never know what style I will be playing and I have eleven bass guitars so I have my T-40 and my G and L set up with flats. Peavey basses are pretty bright sounding. Try it out with the strings that are on it first and if they work for you, leave them on.
