Another police thread

Washington State Patrol Trooper Radulescu, an immigrant from Romania, spoke five languages. He was an Army veteran who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan; his son, who lives nearby, is also a soldier.

He was shot and killed while conducting a routine traffic stop.

Those who would bash the police or paint them with a broad brush would do well to remember the numbers and info you post her. God bless the police.

Now let me put on my asbestos suit because I know I'll get flamed after a positive post about the police AND mentioning God.

From the NY Daily News:

A highly decorated NYPD officer was shot in the face and killed as he confronted a robber in Brooklyn Monday morning, police said.


The tragedy claimed the life of 22-year veteran cop Peter Figoski, 47, who took a bullet in the left cheek at close range, authorities said.

The shooter, a career criminal, was hunted down and busted, cops said. Figoski, who worked in Brooklyn’s 75th Precinct, was shot at the bottom of a staircase leading from the street to a basement apartment at 25 Pine St. in Cypress Hills, police said.

Arlington Police Officer Jillian Michelle Smith was fatally shot at the Arbrook Park Apartments in the 3800 block of Mahonia Way on Dec. 28 while responding to a domestic assault call.

Officer Smith, 24, was dispatched alone at about 7:30 p.m. to take a report at the apartment because the alleged suspect was not expected to be at the property.

Smith was fatally shot while shielding an 11-year-old girl from gunfire.

Cheeze, I see this thread as a knee-jerk reaction.

Most people on TB are reasonable and have no problem with law enforcement. You're campaigning against the stubborn, loud-mouthed rest.

Personally and I do mean personally, every cop I have met and I know, say in the last 15 years has been dirty, corrupt, lying, cheating, self serving and dishonest. I realize that the ones I have met are from my local area and because every one of them has not only cheated on their husbands and wives, but covered it up, did it while on the clock and on and on. Again, this is a personal issue. Around the world, there must be some that are actually great care takers of the people and like a branch of our military, deserve the honor. I will say that my recent visit to New York City gave me a very good impression of the LEO's. They were nice. Courtious, and protective of the streets. They most certainly made me feel safe. However, my locals here, not good. Not good at all.

I agree with the second half of what you wrote but to be quite honest, there seems to be so much police-bashing going on these days that it's almost epidemic. Some of it well-deserved, a lot of it not at all. I'm not talking about TBOT per se, just in general. A positive thread about police, or a thread about fallen officers is a great idea.

Indeed :)

My point was that trying to convince the stubborn leo-bashers is akin to me barging into a gun owners thread and preaching civilian disarmament. It heats heads on all sides with no positive result :hmm:

One time before, a thread like this came up and I made a comparison with my own profession. As of August, I will have been a professor for twenty years. I have been a pretty good professor over that time and I have earned some commendations, pins, and plaques. I have been tenured and promoted, published, and gotten a grant or two. Unless you run in my circles, you would never know about anything I have accomplished. Let me steal something, grab some @$$, smack somebody, and my name and picture will be all over the local media.

It is the same for the police. They have chosen a dangerous profession, and unfortunately, they usually are not thanked publicly for their job. When they screw up purposely or due to negligence, it is all over the media.

Now, I dont mean to say that youre not being honest here, but every cop for the last 15 years? Wow.

I cant say that Ive ever met a cop that Ive known to be any of those things. Aside from one jerky detective on a sensitive case, my experiences with law enforcement have been largely positive.

Unfortunately, many people or professions are not getting the attention and respect they deserve. our priorities are pretty screwed up :rollno:
