I have 2 cabinets. Both I am going to put Faital 12PR300 speakers in. 1 cabinet is a 1212 (dual 12). The 1212 is running 16Ohm speakers run in series(i think) bringing the cabinet to 8Ohms(this part I know) The other cabinet has one 8 Ohm speaker and is a 8Ohm cabinet(this part I also know for certain).
Now to my question -
Will the 16 Ohm x 2 cabinet at 8Ohms have the same tonal qualities as the 1 x 12 cabinet with 8Ohm speaker? Considering that the boxes are made by the same company and the speakers are exactly the same just different Ohm ratings.. Will they sound the same - ish?

The speakers in the 212 are connected in parallel to give you the 8 ohms. I assume that the 112 will be connected to the 212 in parallel to give you 4 ohms to go to the amp.

If the 112 and 212 cabinets are of the same design and the same model speaker is in both cabs, the tone will be the same-ish. The power will be split evenly between the two cabinets. The 212 will be louder.

Oh... I am looking into Faital 12PRO300's. If I get a pair of 16Ohm, they should be the same sounding speaker as an 8Ohm?? Yes?? No?

Does the 112 cab have the same Faital 12Pro300 in it?
Are the cabs the same design, one scaled up to hold 212?
Are there two chambers in the 212 sealing each 12 in it's own chamber or is it two speakers in one big chamber?

All these things play in to affecting the sound and how the cabs perform.

You would be better having two 112 cabinets, or one or two identical 212 cabinets.

Been using this set up for 11 years. Upgrading the speakers is all. Yes the cabinets are of similar design with the 1212 expanded to have a front firing 12 as well as a side firing 12. The single 12 has a side firing 12 only. Single 12 will have the Faital 12PRO300 8Ohm speaker and the 1212 will have a pair of Faital 12PRO300 16Ohm speakers.

Have you confirmed that the 12PR300s are an upgrade for the boxes you have? If the T/S specs dont jive, you will end up with an expensive amount of tone suck.

T/S... Ha!! I laugh in that general direction.. No really. Got no clue. There are no technical spec's for Jorg's hand made cabinets. I know he used the Faital's in the L versions of his cabinets, but since back when I bought mine, there was not variation in the cabinet, I can only assume (yes I know what that means) that they were made with both the Delta's and the Faital's in mind. However, there could be a giant load of suck if they don't work.

People are often very pleased with Faital speakers when they drop them into vintage cabinets. You have experience with how the cabs sound with what you have in there. That's a plus when it comes to evaluate them.

Even if you model the system, you'll never really know how the Faitals will do till you try them and see. I find that some cabinets require more or less power for the sound to open up.

You dont need specs on the cab, you need specs on the drivers you want to put in them. Then take measurements of the internal volume and porting to understand if the match is one you like.

gotcha.. well, I pulled the specs on both the Delta and Eminence speakers. With little exception (magnet weight, type and SPL 99/99.2) they are virtually identical. I am thinking (on paper) they should do very nicely and cut the weight of my cabinets by a ton, but I guess I will hopefully find out soon enough

Which specs are you looking at? Those drivers should not be identical to the Faitals.

the 2 x 16Ohm speakers will be delivered today. The 2 x 8Ohm speakers will be here next week. I have a pair of single 12 cabinets that I use. 3 cabinets in all. All currently with Eminence Delta 12's in them. So, I matched all 4 speakers with Faital 12Pro300's. I am thinking it should work out great both in a super clean clear tone and weight. Also, just to ensure I was not missing anything, I am replacing my preamp tube with a new one just for good measure..

Speaker Impedance

You would have a "3 Parallel" situation with both of those cabs. 16 ohms, 16 ohms, and 8 ohms respectively. Plug in those criteria, add your amp's wattage rating at 4 ohms and see if you're going to exceed the rating for your cab/speaker.

Also, IIRC I read/heard somewhere that the Faitals were much more mid-focused speakers. You may find that they sound considerably different from your current setup. Better/worse is in the ear of the listener. Good Luck with the overhaul and pay attention to that single 112 when you crank it up.

And understand that in a parallel setup the 8 ohm cab will draw twice the power that either of the 16 ohm cabs will draw. If, for example, you were to parallel a single driver 8 ohm cab with a 16 ohm cab with two 8 ohm drivers in series, the single driver in the 8 ohm cab will be fed four times the power that either of the two drivers in the 16 ohm cab will get. The 16 ohm cab gets half as much power as the 8 ohm cab because of the difference in impedance, and then the two 8 ohm drivers in series each get half of that.
