Another UPS incompetence thread

Or this, if you want something more classic...

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so vainly we craved at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose brown paint and gold thru the drear of the night,
Could only be seen if by chance we were dreaming?
And the tail-light’s red glare didn’t light up the air,
‘Cos the UPS clowns couldn’t get the van there.
Oh, say does that dang tracking number yet state
That my package is not going to be nine days late?

I've always wanted a Roscoe. Those are pretty wicked. I'm comfortable with my Hanewinckels though. I might could use a Roscoe 6-string someday. We'll see.

I've played a few Hanewinckels, and was very impressed, so I can see why you'd be very comfy with them! :) If you ever decide to come over to the dark side, let me know and I'll see to it you get something cool...

Alright, I finally got my bass! I had to go to the local hub and wait for it but at least they had it ready this time. Of course, that was only because I made it brutally clear to the UPS guy who called me at 7:45 this morning that if it wasn't there at 8:30pm bad things were going to happen.

I think it's ridiculous that I've had to go and wait at the hub at all 4 times to pick up packages that should have been delivered. I don't know what the hell is wrong with my local UPS. Perhaps they're all on the medical marijuana. That stuff will make you stupid (temporarily, at least). That's the only way I can explain the level of incompetence that I've experienced.

I have also heard of FedEx horror stories. There must be some financial incentive to screwing people over. Perhaps the rewards outweigh the occasional pissed off customers. That's not an ethical way to do business, in my opinion. I've heard of UPS leaving packages to get stolen rather than take the time to ring a bell and wait for the recipient to come and open the door. They've done it to me but thankfully the packages they dropped off weren't stolen. They should have at least rang though. Why is that so hard?

So, anyway, I hate UPS with a passion. They suck suck suck suck suck. They pissed me off immensely and made me waste an entire day waiting for them when they knew that my package wasn't going out.

From now on, I'm going to use FedEx. Hopefully our local FedEx does random drug (or stupidity) testing.

I'm sorry to hear that guys.
What a colorful thread! I really enjoyed bassybill's savvy wordsmithing. I have had my share of experiences, both good and bad, with just about every courier service in America. Back when I lived in KS, FedEx and UPS were about the only non-Postal couriers available in my area. There were only a few times when they failed to meet their delivery date and/or time but I would occasionally get a smashed box or damaged goods. When I got my Demeter VTBP-201s, it arrived with a broken tube. I'm still not quite sure how that could've happened but it wasn't too big of a deal. If it doesn't cost too much I try to get 2-day or faster. They seem to be a bit more punctual when it is expedited. That's no guarantee, however, as others here can attest.

Now that I live in Brooklyn, things are much different due to the increased density of the drivers' routes among other things. They also seem to be much more indifferent here (as does the majority of the local population). I've had trouble in recent months with drivers (FedEx and UPS) just not even trying to open my front gate to deliver the package. I usually leave two bilingual notes on neon PostIt's for drivers when I expect a delivery. One at the front gate to let them know it's unlocked and that I'm home and another at the front door to let them know which doorbell to ring and again, that I am in fact there to accept the package. There was one day a few weeks ago when I took a day off to receive a 2-day package and I was pretty much waiting by the front window most of the day. I am sitting right there, looking out the window, and I refresh the tracking page only to find that there was a delivery 'exception' at 6:25pm. What? I would've seen the dude or at the very least heard the distinctive squeak of the front gate if he opened it. So the guy didn't even bother to open the (unlocked) gate yet he wrote that I wasn't there to accept. Did he even get out of the truck? Was he ever even on my street? Those were all questions that were racing through my head as I blankly stared at the tracking page. Arrrrgggghhhh!!!!

Things like that were what got me to writing the notes in the first place. I'm not sure if this is actually counter-active but the one reliable UPS driver that does my route told me that he appreciates it and that he wished more people did it. I guess that for some reason I'm at the end of the route for both UPS and FedEx because if it's a general ground delivery, I usually don't get a package until well after 6pm which kind of sucks but I deal. Since UPS and FedEx have about the same track record with me, I still use them both. Whenever I sell something I go with the buyer's preference if they have one. Some are more comfortable with UPS, some with FedEx. I tend to use UPS more I suppose. It's hard because I know the risks involved but I have to ship and receive somehow. There are limited options for me in this area because I don't have a car. I schlep the package (the larger and heavier ones in a handcart) to the closest shipping center, which does UPS, FedEx and DHL. The lady that works there is a complete dunce but I deal with it and get my business done, no matter how frustrating it may be. :D

That's pretty much what happened to me four times. One of the times, the UPS Store that the guy shipped from truncated my apartment number in the computer. The full address was written on the package though. The UPS guy wouldn't even bother to look and just put in an exception. All the other times, I was at home, taking the day off to wait for my packages and they didn't even make an attempt. They just put in exceptions saying I wasn't there.

By the way, my posts in this thread were approved by UPS. I told them what was going to happen if they didn't get me my bass on the day that I had taken off from work to wait for it (the day it was promised me up until 5:45pm on that day when they rescheduled it). It was sitting at their warehouse 5 minutes from my home. All they had to do was make a phone call to the warehouse and have them find it for me.

Hopefully by showing that FedEx sucks only half as much as UPS, more people here will ship via FedEx. I know will.

UPS = FAIL

I just wanted to NOT thank UPS for NOT properly delivering me a package, yet again. I was at home all day on Wednesday when they apparently left my package of bass strings and other stuff I ordered from Modulus (over $100) sitting outside my front door. They didn't even bother ringing or knocking. I would have heard it. Since I was working at home that day, I never went out that day or evening so that package evidently sat there all night and most of the day today.

Somebody please fill me in on why UPS can't even press a button to let me know my package is here. The next time one of these UPS douchebags does this, I'm going to go out and confront them. I'm sick of this crap. That package could have easily been stolen during that time and I wouldn't have had a clue because I never received a tracking number and was expecting 3-4 weeks for delivery, not 1 week.

.... but don't you answer you own question right there? :hmm:

"oh no it's this dude again. I'm not going to wait around, not this time!"

:)
