OP, You'll get your chance to hear the masters in action. I suggest that You'll hit some jazz-clubs in the area you're living in before jumping to unknown territory. The first experience isn't usually too pleasant. IME/IMHO only of course.

BTW, was Jackson the headliner/soloist on that line-up? If he wasn't, there might not have been too much of his "magic" in the show. Jazz musicians (IMLE) tend to be really tight and the pros seldom overplay if it isn't their turn in the spotlight.

Now the other kinds of musicians... ;).

lol! he's playing as a part of "BEATLE JAZZ" band or something not a as a soloist but its the headliner act for the day. some of the pro bass players here i know are going but none of my friends nor my teacher so i missed it too

This month i went to see the Wayne Shorter Quartet, the price of the tickets was about 100 PLN which is what I spend in a week in Poland (I'm in college). I didn't really enjoy the music ( too "out there" for me ) but I don't regret it at all. I think it was a good experience to see and hear someone as influential as Wayne Shorter.

He desn't typically work as a soloist. If nothing else it would be a great learning experience for any bassist.

I don't see why this is a problem. If you don't like him, don't go. Especially don't go for the sake of the name. I mean, it's not like seeing him will make you a better bass player. And it would be very bad if you blow the money on the ticket, and then find out you don't like him.

Me personally, I would go in a heartbeat though.

I really don't understand what all this song and dance is about
I simply asked a question and was then faced by rude/inappropriate remarks to which I responded(admittedly,slightly annoyed at having to waste my time with stuff like that. Well,maybe didn't have to, but hey, there we go) intending no malice.
That's all, the rest is not on me.
Can we leave it there?

ps: T-Bird & catfishstudio, guys i think cnltb's first post over the amount 12$ was more of a casual remark on the situation and nothing personal or imo but i also totaly understand what you both mean in your posts. you all stand right and i think it was just another misunderstanding of tone;) over the internet so please lets cool it off!?:)

man maybe you guys were right maybe i should have gone, i do make that money every week at minimum so all it would have taken is a little bit of saving :P
moral of the story: go for a gig if it takes a bit of saving, because you can save up again but they wont play here again!
anyway now whats done is done

edit: i also realized am really not much into jazz unless its very groovy sort of groovy and not the walking weird style of groovy so it remains another twisted mystery :P
