So for the past week I got tired of listening to the same music. I decided to get new music and try to listen to other stuff.. and came to realize that lately american music isn't.. well.... good. Everything that came out from the United States the past few years have been disappointing or so I believe. I mean sure there's a few.. dredg, Tool, The Mars Volta.. but.. other then those.. (well that I think of atm) are well.. not so swell. All of the new albums I got are from other countries and to me, their sound is just much better then the States came out these past years. All you hear now is Rap and Emo.. and.. yeah.. Anyone else feels the same ?

    Right now I got some
    Jamiroquai,
    Radiohead,
    Mark Ronson,
    Coldplay,
    Silverchair,
Buck 65, (yeah it's kinda cool)
    Broken Social Scene,
    Bedouin Soundclash,
    Ill Scarlet..

    Any other suggestions ?

  3. Not so much American as it is mainstream music, tons of great "American" musicians, but the mainstream.. isn't even music anymore, just a bunch of fat old men throwing $%#$ onto the radios and TV's

  4. Try Wax Poetic(New York, but they are my current favorite) or C-Mon and Kypski(I think they're from Portugal...).

Right now the big movement in American music is the indie-folk sound. Bands following the traditions of artists like Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal are popping up...of course...this isn't that rock n roll sound at all.

I definitely think there's still some really good rock music being put out in the States...maybe nothing mind blowing, but still solid stuff. I've felt like the most recent Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age tracks have been very solid. Also, I've heard nothing but great things about the latest offering from Thrice, and considering the quality of Vheissu, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that the new Thrice album is also spectacular.

    +1.

If you think American music sucks, than you aren't looking in the right places. Read Pitchfork or something that isn't Rolling Stone!

  7. some of my favorite current American acts:

    Band of Horses
    Bright Eyes
    Joanna Newsom
    Of Montreal
    Spoon
    The National
    Vampire Weekend
    Two Gallants
    The Hold Steady
    Neko Case
    The Fiery Furnaces
    The Mountain Goats

I know what you mean though, sometimes it feels like Canada is totally owning us lately.

whoa...don't blame us for that one...blame Canada.
Of Montreal is from Athens, GA...I'm not really sure how I would describe their sound though.

  14. IMO the new thrice cd will be up for a Grammy or two. The first cd is more in the same stream as their old stuff, only with more weird time signatures and stuff, check out the song firebreather. I still can't figure out the count to the intro of it. The second cd has lots of synths and is a more rocky coldplay type of sound to it. Very cool stuff, and my favorite of the two. Check out the song digital sea, very cool.
