Any Advice for Neck Binding??

Hello Guys!

I've started a bass build out of some parts and a cheap bass I found online. I was thinking it might be cool to have a bound neck. Is there a way I could apply binding to a completed neck? I'm really not sure how I would go about it. Is there a way I could shim down the sides of the fret board.

Also thought I might add, it's going to be fretless bass so frets won't be getting in the way of anything, they'll be pulled out and filled with a veneer.

Thanks for the help!

Biggest problem is keeping the router at 90 degrees to the neck so your binding sits correctly.

I've built jigs and added shims to the router plate, but the way I do it is create a platform that runs alongside the neck and the router indexes on the platform, not the neck itself.

I only use acetone as my glue as it slightly melts the binding and it'll fuse to the neck - or any other surface for that matter.

I've attempted to use Duco Cement and had less than favorable results, not to mention a large mess to clean afterwards.

Acetone is the answer for me.

I'm currently re-binding a 1953 Martin D28 with that same technique and its very straightforward and neat. It was used as a defensive weapon in a fight.
