Any Bass Recommendations?

Hey everybody! I've been playing bass for quite some time and now I think it is time for an upgrade since i'm recording this summer. I'm looking to upgrade from my current MIM P bass, and my Stingray bass for something that is American/Canadian made (I currently live in Canada). My price range is capped at about 1500$ since i plan to go to university next year. Any good basses you guys can think of? If it helps, I'm in a hard/prog rock and metal band. Looking forward to some replies, cheers ~ Tyler

If you're doing the hard/prog rock thing, see if you can try out something with a Precision/Jazz pickup configuration. See if the deep-to-mid tones fits the sound you're looking for. If you like the mid-range "bite" they add to the overall sound, perhaps one could serve your groove well. If you like the idea, there are many companies that cater to it.

Fender: Tony Franklins, Aerodynes, MP Jaguars, American Deluxe P-Basses, Duff McKagans, Reggie Hamiltons, Active P-Bass Specials

Schecter: Diamond P's and others (sorry, I know Fender best)

I recently ordered a Fender Blacktop Jazz. I'll be able to better in the near future, but the try-out I gave one last year was pretty spectacular…very ballsy roar to it, no doubt!
