any body try this JHS Big Muff 2?

a legend rediscovered, a never produced, long lost circuit prototype for an opamp based Muff the JHS archaeologists unearthed in a still living Bob Myers' garage. i of course had to buy one. my impression after two seconds of playing through it? NOPE. haha. i don't think it woks well with bass. the low E fundamental doesn't come through, its just all sputter and fizzle, even with the sustain and tone all the way down (where i like them- Tone all the way down and Sustain just barely cracked open, add volume to taste. more growl than snarl... does any body else use their muffs this way? im going to start a separate thread on this some day..)
anyways, it might sound great with a guitar, especially for those with heavier ambitions. or maybe its a bad unit, i really don't want to badmouth JHS or their work, i have some great pedals from them... but not this one haha. anyone else check this one out?

I ordered one. It’s still not here yet. I do play some guitar too, so it may end up as guitar only. Also, I could use a blend pedal and blend in some unadulterated signal to get the bottom back. That’s how I use my Russian original big muff.

I have not tried mine on bass yet, only on guitar. But I can verify that even on guitar it's nothing but sputter and fizzle. It's a very gated fuzz and sounds nothing like a Muff.

I haven't bought one, but I hope you find you like it better with a bass.

I haven’t spent a lot of time with it yet, but so far I’m pretty happy with it. It’s definitely still extremely wooly with sustain at zero, but it’s a fuzz pedal, not an overdrive.
It does Night Goat tone perfectly with a P Bass… what more could a person want?

im actually relieved to hear people are finding it useful. i feel kinda bad for trash talking it right out of the gate. i think its a cool concept and a great backstory. it just didn't work for me. also the above comment makes me realize i really use Muffs as more of an overdrive than all out fuzz. i just really love that goofy sounding GRRR! with the tone all the way down. it reminds me of Grimace on a warpath.

ok i put my guitar through it and it all makes sense now. not my bag exactly but i get it. the thing shreds.
