Joseph Raymond's "5th Gear" has no relation to Southampton's "Fifth Gear", nor Hamish that I know of.
As John_k10 noted, compare the 5th Gear v2.1 schematic you have there to the EQD Speaker Cranker, which shares the topology of the Fifth Gear — tweak the Cranker to taste.
Better still, build the 5th Gear with the Fifth Gear in one enclosure and call it the Ten-Speed. Possible graphic:

just finished this one, a Zvex Basstortion. i love the sound of my original but really dislike the horizontal format with side jacks, so i built this one to replace it.

i just finished building one and i can verify that it sounds exactly like my original. i added a relayed true bypass to my clone:

So, I bought the latest LP by A Place To Bury Strangers, as I like that band. It's a great album by the way! Also, it's the band of the guy behind Death by Audio, so getting an LP sized circuit board with the LP seemed very promising. It lets you build a 3 oscillator synth with 2 delay lines and some other stuff (knobs and switches everywhere!)
It's a very cool synth alright, it can make all sorts of drones and noises and the two delays offer a lot of potential to go wild.
But even cooler is that it has an instrument input, so that you can use it as a pedal, which kinda qualifies it for this thread, I'd say.
Anyway, here are some notes on bass through the synth. There are tons of different sounds to be had, this is just a taste.
And the synth.
