Any DIY pedal builders on TB? Strut your stuff!

The NTE germaniums are fine but not anything special. I built one of those boards a couple years ago and split out the gain control into separate pots for the rangemaster boost and the muff gain. In that configuration you want low/medium gain transistors and really any npn Ge and pnp Ge will do. If you're looking for one-stop shopping you'll have a tough time with Smallbear closed up while awaiting the sale to Synthcube which will be a few months. You might try this pair from ebay:

GC511K PNP + GC521K NPN TUNGSRAM MATCHED PAIR GERMANIUM TRANSISTORS 0.3W 1A | eBay

I don't know how many circuits you have built or you current level but if you are new to this be prepared to do a lot of research.
Not new to it, but it's been quite a while. Last significant circuit project I did was a PAiA theremin, nearly 25 years ago now. Lots of research is good, I need something to distract me from the important stuff I'm supposed to be doing :smug:

Good to know, and thanks for the ebay link!

I'm taking apart a compressor and I'm wondering how do I take off the knobs off the PCB? Do I just pull them off as hard as possible or is there any metod to this?

@edit
I got it. It just pull off. Thanks.

Glad you got it figured out, but when I saw you post on this thread I was hoping you were getting into pedal builds

I don't know anything about Electronics so I think I'll pass. I really do not like the Markbass colour scheme so I have come up with an idea to sand that thing down and paint it.

I even got a sketch started and all that.
Also these knobs are so low quality its... Sad. Ill buy metal ones.

Fwiw, it turns out you can start learning a decent amount about electronics from bashing your head into a basic buffer circuit and watching a bunch of electronics basics videos explaining why you got it wrong.

On an unrelated note, I figured out multiple ways to squeeze distortion out of an opamp. Figuring out how to apply said dirt to a competent circuit is still on my radar.

I'm sure I could figure it out, but do I want to mess around with that? Not particularly.

For the one I'm going to be painting, I got the idea already and I know what I want it to look like.

I'll paint a scene with brushes of a dock and city from one video game, that's where the whole idea comes from.

"Volume-etric S"#t Compressor" is what the thing is called.

From the game:
"Your s#&t is *apart*, and it's rather unbecoming of a cop and a human being. It's supposed to be the opposite of that: *together*. Compressed in a small area. To achieve a solid level of s?#t-compression, squeeze your butt-cheeks together for 30 minutes. Do something similar with the two hemispheres of your brain. Talk to people, maybe that will help."

Fits me very well too, minus the cop part.

That's pretty perfect.
