I've used silicone wires before, they don't melt back too, plus they're really flexible and easy to route. I gotta get me more of those.

I havent made pedals recently without shielded I/O lines, but I made some years ago that had weird noises here and there that went away after I took those lines out of a bundle. It may have been something else going on, but it's an extra layer of protection.
The lines are pretty stiff, but you can gently heat it up with a heat gun and set the lines in place. They create a bit of a 'memory' when the cool.

geofex has good info as usual, I made a small test by combining 2 frequency modulated waves as per the formant filter graph. I have freq1 sweeping horizontally and freq 2 vertically at the prescribed frequencies. I know this is not a band pass filtering, just testing it out to see what my speaker squeaks out.

Happy New Year pedal builders!
My final build of the year is Parasit Studio's Into The Unknown. Fitting name for my first venture into the unknown world of PLL's. I was lured into this project by the Theramin Fuzz, but that kit was sold out at Musikding. So I went with the bigger project, Into The Unknown, that covered theremin fuzz tones and much much more. There are lots of sounds to explore in this pedal with 8 knobs and 3 toggles.

Cut some islands (+ve, gnd, pads for trimmers) into a blank and deadbugged the rest

This is a pretty fun way of building things, it's all layout as you go.
I'm not going to case this up. I think I'll add a 4 headed dupont male, epoxy the whole thing up(?), maybe just translucent heat shrink over. Also make a few more like it.
Then build something like my breadboard pedal but it takes these circuits plugged in on top, like an old sega console catridge. I could style it like one too

I built my preamp for my piezo wishbass using a piece of fiberboard drilled out, wired, and soldered together. It was interesting, but mine is a horror show to look at. I need to sharpen my soldering under more controlled circumstances before attempting to freestyle, methinks.

I have a ton of other projects going, but this was almost done already so I figured why not take a few minutes and knock it out.

PedalPCB.coms CDXL, which is the classic DOD 440 Envelope Filter. The build was straightforward, I used the Tadya pre-drilled and powdercoated 125B enclosure. The holes for the DC jack and LED were enlarged to fit what I had to use, but otherwise the enclosure was perfect.

It's probably not the best Envelope Filter I've used, but it sounds pretty good with the level down around 9 and the range around 2. The Down position on the switch sounds really nasely, it's not a setting I'll use much.

After I get the Meatsphere done, I'll plug in all my filters and see what sounds the best.

Hi all, I have a question maybe someone here can help with (and if not maybe someone can point me to a better place to ask it). I'm having trouble locating a specific transistor and I'm not sure how to identify equivalents.

So I'm just starting down the DIY journey with some PCBs I picked up over at AionFX. I have soldering experience and know the basics, but not enough to solve the problem at hand: their Animato clone (the "Polaris") calls for NTE103 and NTE102 transistors (both TO-5) for the NPN/PNP pair, and I can't seem to find NTE103 in stock anywhere. I looked at SmallBear's germanium selection, and I'm not sure what I need to be looking for in terms of finding equivalent replacements. AionFX's documentation points to a dead SmallBear link for possible equivalents, and I wasn't able to find any other info from them.

Any thoughts? Anyone familiar with the Polaris board specifically? I appreciate any pointers, thanks!

I had a hard time finding the exact piece called for on eBay. Some that would likely work, but I don't know enough to know which aspects are important (e.g., I found NTE103a. Same thing? I don't know). I did find the exact part, but of course "0 available." It was listed as $10-- certainly not cheap for a tiny component, but I'm ok with it.

I had initially checked alltransistors.com and couldn't find any equivalents. I don't know what I did wrong the first time around, but I checked again and now see ECG103 listed as equivalent, so I'll check that one out.

I have built a few of them and used Russian transistors in there place. I used MP26b and MP35. I think it sounded as good if not better than the NYE 102/103.
You could probably use any NPN / PNP combination in the 60 - 80 hfe range.
I don't know how many circuits you have built or you current level but if you are new to this be prepared to do a lot of research.
